What Should we INDIANS do to UNITE the rivers?
by Ramy KH on Feb 05, 2007 06:57 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Lets be broad minded and look for always a WIN-WIN situation. Today our country is growing, awarness is growing along. We sensible INDIANS, need to think beyond emotions. The only Long Term solution is to unite the Rivers and is very much possible in today's India. Rather than putting the ball in Poltician court and they play for their gain than us, What do you think WE SHOULD DO?????????

"Uniting" rivers would be a terrible, expensive environmental disaster. It would be cheaper to do some solar desalination. And more prosperous.

What is wrong with all of us?
by Senthil Prakash on Feb 05, 2007 06:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Well, I have been browsing through the message board for some time. I usually browse Rediff Message Boards, but this is the worst of all. Some messages implant hatered, some contain unmentionabe comments... all these between people(educated, atleast to the extend of using a browser) of two states. Is that all the tolerence we have. After all these can we still "proudly" call us Indians and we "enjoy Unity in Diversity"? I dont think so...
If somebody incharge of message board reads this: PLEASE DISABLE THIS MESSAGE BOARD IMMEDIATELY

Thank You

YOU ARE RIGHT AND APPRECIATE YOUR VIEW. ALL ARE GOOD AND RULES ARE MADE FOR OUR COMFORT AND MAY BE CHANGED WHEN EVER REQUIRED. IT WOULD MAKE SENSE IF THE GOVT COULD SHARE A TRUE WHITE PAPER ON THE CAUVERY ISSUE AT THIS KIND OF SITUATION.

Shameful yes, but most of these venom seem to come from one state and not the other.

Furthermore, it seems that cable operators in Karnataka has blacked out Tamil channels. How childish and how anti-national. I remember once they wanted to black out all bollywood movies from Karnataka. Come on, Karnataka is not an isolated state, its part of the Union and there should be no blacking out of anything.

Being a North Indian, it saddens me to see South Indians fight like this

CAUVERY FOR ALL
by N Mangalesh on Feb 05, 2007 06:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Politicians only wants to gain a mileage pl understand details of verdict before becoming violent on media publications.
Total water generated by cauvery in karnataka on average rain fall - 462 TMC.
In this karnataka share - 270 TMC - 58.44%
TN share - 182 TMC - 39.45%
To sea - 10 TMC - 2.1%
Total water generated by cauvery in Tamilnadu.on average rain fall - 270TMC
TN share - 237 TMC -87.1%
Kerala - 30 TMC -11.1%
Pondicherry - 7 TMC - 1.2%
Sea - 3 TMC - 0.6%
WATER FROM TN CAUVERY BELT DOES NOT FLOW IN REVERSE DIRECTION TO KARNATAKA.

Please understand and dont go by big figures(419TMC) of TN(as the more water to it is got from its own catchment).

Here a balance is drawn to utilise water more resourcefully for agriculture.

we as Indians should not get instigated by happiness of TN chief minister or sorrow Karnataka CM, we should think on linking all national rivers to solve water problem for every citizen n country. Just imagine Brahmaputra - 3500 TMC only flows to Bay of bengal.
Similarly how much water goes to sea
Ganga -
Yamuna-
Godavari-
Narmada-
Mahanadi-
Indus- flows rapidly in north never dry.
Sutlez- borders India but can be utilised better.

WE HAVE ENOUGH RESOURCES BUT NOT UTILIZED BECAUSE OF POOR VISION OF ALL EARLIER HEAD OF STATES , WHOOSE FOCUS IS PIGGY POLITICS TO WIN NEXT ELECTION.

SUPPORT MY MAIL TO DRAW A PROSPEROUS INDIA.

Exactly, I would like to know what is the basis of the demand for more water to TN than Karnataka. Is the demand been looked into. What was the basis of the calculation? Was the total irrigable land looked into? Was the kind of crops grown there looked into? Was the water required for irrigation in the two states calcualated scientifically. If yes, then the details need to be provided rather than send a one line notice of the award.

The average data collected is of 100 years of rain fall, capacity of our dams that can irrigate the land in both states because of dams & as well as the course of flow.

The tribunal consists of water resourse planning experts who are much more qualified than me & u ,

more than all we must think future rather than quarelling,

we are all divided on what not-
religion,
caste,
creed,
language,
state partition,
water distribution,
power distribution,
petty vote bank politics etc.

Being educated we must talk, think & leave as better citizens of India.

WASTE OF TIME & CREATING PROBS
by ramesh p on Feb 05, 2007 06:00 PM  Permalink

HOPE WE ARE ALL ARE CREATING PROBLEMS OURSELVES....? DOES ANYONE HAS GUTS/GOODWILL/ TO ASK FOR JUSTICE IN A POLITE MANNER TO THE GOVT./COURT? IF SO... STOP TALKING RUBBISH AND MOVE ON ACTION. HOPE INTERNET IS FREE FOR ALL OF US AND CAN TALK/WRITE ANYTHING...

It would be better if REDIFF could provide a poll option and not a discussion forum for sensitive issues like this. PLS REMEMBER ANY UNWANTED MESSAGE MIGHT CREATE A PROBLEM.... IF U WOULD LIKE TO DO SOMETHING FOR THE NATION YOU MAY DO IT WITH OUT TRIGGERING HUMANBEINGS ACROSS THE STATES AND DO NOT TRIGGER HUMANBEINGS. YOU CAN ALSO GET THEIR OPINIONS BY POLLS. HOPE IT MAKES SENSE.

No farmers against farmers - Only Politicians
by Swaminathan V on Feb 05, 2007 05:57 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am not a tamilian, but I know this issue has to be settled like this only. It is the life of farmers in both the states. When a tribunal (neutral) giving a verdict , they would defintely consider the needs of both the parties. LET US UNITE. Let the politicians keep quite and they are the problem creators. If I come to your house, will you not give a cup of water to me ?

Cauvery Tribunal verdict has done injustice to karnataka
by jayaramaiah MV on Feb 05, 2007 05:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Initially when Ist agreement was signed in 1920's Karnataka suffered in the hands of British power and now by this tribunal. The tribunal should have given weightage for the water requirement for drinking water to Bangalore and other cities & towns and in addition to the agriculture crops. As such in TN three crops are grown in a year and in Karn not even one crop is possible if stipulated water is released. As a upper reparian state Karnatake should naturally have Ist right to use more water than the lower reparian state. This is in line with the Bachawat award for Krishna water wherein Maharastra was given max share. Karnatka should appeal against the verdict.

Sometimes one has to digest the truth. (All)Tamil's r not telling kannadigas r stupid. The classical status or cavery dispute is based on the scientific facts. If u disagree, give some facts. Question it. These two things are unquestionable.

Greek is a classical language. German is not. But now german's are smartest in the world. Even english is not classical. They have accepted these facts. This did not hinder their intelectual dominace over other's. So there is no need worry abt it. ur intelectual dominace will be apprieciated irrespective of the orgin and history. Then later kannadigas will become history.
