Hi Nag Reddy

here is the clarification for you...

An observation on Cauvery Tribuna's Verdict.

Total volume of Water available in Cauvery basin area, including all 4 states TN, Karnataka, Pondicherry & Kerala is 740 TMC

TN pleaded for 560 TMC

Verdict:
TN - 419 TMC
Karnataka - 270 TMC
Pondicherry - 7 TMC
Kerala - 30 TMC

Please note that verdict does not say that Karnataka should release 419 TMC to TN. It only says that TN should get 419 TMC out of total of 740 TMC available in Cauvery. For TN to get 419 TMC, Karnataka needs to release only 192 TMC. TN gets rest of water from Cauvery water capturing area in TN itself. This is 13 TMC less than tribunals' interim award of 205 TMC.

Out of 192 TMC that TN gets from Karnataka, it has to release 30 TMC to Kerala and 7 TMC to Pondicherry.

So, unlike the media projects, verdict is not against Karnataka. It is more or less in line with interim verdict only.

Infact karnataka get more share than TN. Understand the reality..

Victory for neither state
by Kannan on Feb 05, 2007 04:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This verdict has actually decreased the amount Karnataka needs to share with Tamil Nadu (by way of interim order), hence Karnataka should be happy with the verdict. It is more or less preserving the status quo and looks like a fair judgement

I'm slightly disappointed with the verdict, I expected 50:50 for KA & TN. But I do belive that tribunal hv done fair study on the needs of both States., These numbers has got nothing to do with Rain gods, let us pray that we get sufficient rains every year..

If you were expecting a 50:50 verdict and now disappointed with the verdict - then it clearly shows that you haven't read the verdict properly.
So request you to please go through the verdict in detail - so that you won't get disappointed unneccesarily.
Cheers,
Venkatesh.

Good data.
Rediff - Please carefully form the content titles.
The title "Cauvery tribunal gives TN 419 tmcft, 270 to Karnataka" provokes unnecessary hatred among the people of tamilnadu and karnataka.

Injustice to Karanataka - whom to blame.
by mohan br on Feb 05, 2007 04:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Tamil Nadu has intelligently used its clout in politics and bureaucracy and has managed this award. There is no scientific logic or reasom in this decision at all. Our good old politicians have only been finding ways to outdo each other in local politics. Arise Kannadigas, you have tolerated enough until now. Let us not accept such step motherly treatment. We can share water when we have enough.

Infact, Tamilnadu is the only state where are other language people live without any fear and speak their mother tongues freely without any hatred stares from others. I was in B'lore for three years and heard abuses like, "nodu! Katpadi badhidhaaney!" They call Tamils as `Katpadis'. There was a mass ire and beating up of Tamils during that time. Can anyone recall any such atrocities against linguistic minorities anywhere in Tamilnadu? I'm proud of my state where none feels left alone and everyone feels part of the main stream. I request people like Mr. Mohan to learn coexistence from Tamils and shed his partisan attitude forever!

Hi Vivek,
You may be right to certain extent abt Tamils not speaking with other states people. This is not totally the public fault. Since DMK came into picture, they corrupted the minds of us and stopped us from learning Hindi. In the name of protecting Tamil, they close down hindi school.
this has happened from 50s to mid 90s. Only now, the youths realising the importance of learning national language etc after getting jobs in other placed. Also, non-tamil don't want to us bcos of language issues. If you don't know a language its very difficult to engage in a chit-chat and informal type conversation which is normally how friendship develops. So, we are getting isolated. Hopefully, in future, this will change. By the way, I'm both a tamilian and Kannadiga. My parents our last 3 or 4 generations are from TN eventhough we speak Kanada at home which is our mother tongue.

Together we can develop.
