Exactly - this is what journalism is - saying it as it is and not praising someone after his / her death.

I seriously didn't understand what the hype about her was when all news channels went gaga over her.

How can she say this!!! By that time pakistan was not nuclear capable. Please correct me if I'm missing something.

But this is true that she also had supported terrorism in India.

I'm talking about this line in the article.
"Thirdly, she deliberately increased tension levels and then threatened India with a pre-emptive nuclear strike."

Who says pakistan was not nuclear capable at that time? you are confused with nuclear testing with nuclear capability. Both India and Pakistan had nuclear capability during Bhuttos time. Explotion was just advertising the world that they are nuclear power. In fact India was capable in 60s itself and pakistan in late 70s or early 80s.

You get back what you give
by subhash narayan sirur on Jan 11, 2008 12:36 AM  Permalink

Benazir as Simi Garewal gushes, mouthing adjectives was not exactly the person she projected herself to be.Such hatred towards India and Hindus made her maniacal in her thinking having taken over this attitude where here father had let off.For everyone of those who preach and practice violence towards others,do get back the same in return sooner or later.

Kashmir is a vote bank issue
by amit saxena on Jan 10, 2008 06:59 PM  Permalink

Kashmir is a vote bank issue in pakistan so as to divert the attention of people from other social and economic issues.Just like in india we have Dalit, muslim, secularism etc issues in India. No one has seen what a common man wants .JUST ROTI KAPDA AUR MAAKAN.Govt has failed to give social security and diverting the attention of people from development issues.Swami Vivekanand said "Social service is a cheap substitute for Social Security" This is the work of state.

Kudos Gautier,
thanks for addressing these questions.
India's PM might have lose his sleep because ultimateley shes a Muslim( Killed by her own creation) and tried to appease the Minorities.

Indians should learn from these. Most importantly the pseudo secular press should learn from this article by Gautier

Kashmir
by deepalakshmi krishnamurthy on Jan 09, 2008 02:59 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The problem in Kashmir is that both Indian and Paki politicians want to keep Kashmir as a burning issue. Without Kashmir there is virtually no politics in both the nations. Unfortunately, the politicians decide the fate of both the countries.

Its only Pakistan's interest to keep Kashmir a burning issue. India would be more than happy to settle it once and for all

Francois Gautier ! Thank you!
by ashwani kumar sharma on Jan 09, 2008 02:23 PM  Permalink

We hope what you have reported ,is what exactly you were told by Benazir. But that is the mindset any Pakistani leadership will have.
However thank you very much for giving a perspective of the slain leader.

We should be pragmatic in our approach with this country.

No vote bank politics.Deal every Indian fairly.Be watchfull with Pakistan!

Calling a spade a spade
by balaji sampath on Jan 09, 2008 10:08 AM  Permalink

This is what true guts and good journalism should be all about instead of trying to be goodie goodie about someone who is dead and making heroes and martyrs out of below average, selfish, corrupt politicians and compromising the truth.

You can always rely on Francois Gautier to write an honest article that focuses on the truth even if he has to go against the story of the rest of the media. Gautier is by far one of the best journalists in India today even if he is shunned by the so called 'secular' media.
