It should be better known to white foreign women coming to India that we Indians always have a savage lust for white female skin and would go to all lengths to have a go at it.While this is no justifiable excuse for what happened to the poor Finnish woman. The Indian Tourism Ministry should take effective action in educating white foreign women visiting India about the perils of travelling alone ,where they are always at a danger.

I heard the BJP people saying over and over, a women with all her jewellery on her body can roam on the streets of Ahmedbad at two o'clock in the night without any fear?
The culprit's bulla should be cut immediately. Then he should be mented the same punishment (from behind) by the 6 foot 4 inch bubba, till he ruptures and bleeds. Also his sister and mother should be forced to come in front of TV and say sorry to the nation for having a demon.

Yadav or Paki wishing the same to your mother, sister, bhabi and daughter. Also wishing you get a big fat bamboo that makes you bleed to death. Teri maa ne terko hagaa tha, peeche se. Agee se tere ko motatee to tere me itne haiwaniyat nahee hotee.
There is apparently a race between Mumbai and Delhi for the rape capital of the country. And to think that these two are regarded as cosmopolitan and trend-setters for the rest of India, one shudders. To be fair some of the most so-called- "conservative" pockets of urban india are probably relatively better off with lower instances of crimes against women. This obnoxious case proves that just because women in some parts of the country wear western attire does not make the place any more modern, less conservative or any safer than areas which are still tradition bound. Just because men in Mumbai are more used to seeing women in western clothes does not make some of them any less animal/ savage-minded than other places. So instead of glossing over crimes and heaping praises on any city or condemning some others base-lessly readers should accept prevalence of higher crime rates in the so-called westernized urban centers. We should change our yardstick for gauging modernity and open-ness, and being faithfully hindu or culture-bound should not preclude anyone from being accepted as modern.

Modernity of clothes or Modernity of Gadgets is just external modernity. The real modernity should come from the mind. Note that the typical Indian male is lacking in this kind of modernity. So it is not only westernized city-centers, but also in the not-so-westernized places that crimes are committed against women and other vulnerable sections of the society. Take for example, the dowry problem, which is rampant in India. This is not due to western culture. This is our own 100% Indian problem. Or take the treatment of women in the Muslim communities. Even the muslim personal laws are biased against women. This is once again not due to western culture. Ultimately, if we blame something else other than ourselves for our problems, then we would be living in a state of self-delusion.
why is this even a news..is it cause the women is a Finish citizen...everyday women get raped in bihar..no one bothers about it..why dont rediff report those news...is it cause they r indian women ...do we have to be goras for indian media to notice..
Navi Mumbai rape incident is a true reflection of sexual perversion in urban India. Even this Rediff article made it a point to close the article by reporting that the victim was found in an "inebriated state roaming around alone".
I guess in this day and age a female should not roam around alone. What kind of environment is this where roaming around alone becomes a questionable act.
We're all familiar how Indian society has incorporated a twist of "Gandhi's three monkeys" philosophy.
When bad happens - see and listen but don't speak When bad is reported - see and speak but don't listen When we do bad - we don't see, don't speak, and don't listen
I see this incident as a testimony of the demise of the Indian social moral system. Our society is built more on fear of doing wrong rather than a sense that guides us to keep away from wrong doing.
Finally, I'm sure other readers will agree that this incident will get substantive foreign press that can only discourage non-ethnic Indians from visiting the economically and socially rejuvinated India.
As for nationalists, regionalists, communalists, please don't bother to post replies. Your sentiments are well shared and there is no more need to make your point.

"Indian social moral system" there is no such thing. In India we have sexual repression. Unless teenagers are allowed to interact with opposite sex in a healthy way, have boy/girl friends, be able to have physical contact with each other, they have a chance to grow up to be sexual deviants who will rape whenever they get a chance. I haven't seen a society where attitude towards sex is healthy. In west we have sexual obsession and lots of freedom also resulting in lots of rapes. Best way is to punish such crimes with impunity.
