Religion is the opium of mankind
by Yazed Khan on Dec 06, 2007 04:31 PM  Permalink

Religions have turned out to be opium for the mankind. No proved evidence as to which is better than what. But the essence of the religion lies in identifying a person, his/her caste or creed, ancestral roots and moreover influence the human like nature in him/her. As we might know, homo sapiens came in Ice age, which proved the falsehood of the demanding archaeologists propounding the existence of mankind only 700000 B.C. The human beings actually came in to being through evolution only from a kind of "killer ape" on the bank of Vistula river and around. That's why human beings are very much prone to having envious nature, killer instinct, brutality and other non-human qualities. The DNA of the mankind conforms to all these charactersitics which were very much actively evident in the Killer Apes. Religions came much later and really poses one one question: Which one is true...Do we have sufficient facility to judge the same neutrally?

YES IT WAS BECAUSE MOST ACTIONS WERE TAKEN ON THE BASIS OF CONSENSUS, AS HAPPENS IN A DEMOCRACY.

Thanks for the question.

Here is what my understand of Islam is on this matter. Islam considers Men and Woman to be EQUAL but NOT identical. The number of times Men and woman are mentioned in the Holy Quran is exactly the same.

Men have certain PRIMARY role such as being responsible for feeding and protecting his family. The wife may help him by working. But it is NOT an obligation on her. She does NOT have to share her earnings with her husband and the Husband has NO right to question her spending of her earned income.

With regards to elections and votings, this is a new concept. There were no elections at the time of the prophet as he was the leader of the Muslim community. But it is well documented that the Prophet would often go to his wives for advise and consulation. Also members of the community would see advise from the wives of the prophet. This shows that woman were not ignored but their opinions valued by others.

Based on these facts and interpreting how the prophet would act when faced with challenges (Consulting wives) we can infer that the opinion of a woman in social matters is equivalent to that of a man.

My humble opinion is that woman have same voting rights as men in the light of the Quran and the prophets life.

Johny Dayal

Quran takes care of our every aspects of life, nothing has remain excluded from it.
When there are thousands of marriages then there definitely be divorce in few cases. It is just not in that case we become clue less like you people who start running to court & discussing the private matters of home there.
From the above it is clear that women is also the legal heir of the parent property, when the same is not there in other religion. Men & women have been asked to be chaste and we are proud to remain chaste but i think you are happy being corrupt.
Man have been made responsible for their women,if you are happy in not taking the responsibility of your women in your family, you remain irresponsible, we muslim do not have any problem to it.

Why getting surprised? America gave voting rights to their womenfolk only 100 years back, whereas Islam preached it almost 1500 years back.

Johny confession arises when there is wrong in it. He confessed his guilty it was his individual sin, which Islam prohibits. Thru his confession it became obvious that he was lying in the name of Allah. So this man is the liar, didn't u see the All India Muslim Personal law Board who stated that this marriage is void & a big sin. The man should be punished under rape law. Where do Islam involves here, yes it do has involved at the time of punishing him, as the verdict has come from Personal law board to charge him for rape. This man is not the representative of Islam which are trying to show here

Why so many versions
by Truth hurts on Dec 04, 2007 02:24 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am confused now many muslim scholars says Kuran do not allow equality for women and they should not be given power to vote like in many core muslims countries. Now this group of scholars says Kuran permits voting by woman.
Are there different versions of kuran whom this guys are refering?
If there is only one version of kuran, then why is it so difficult for the above guys to interprete it?
I am sure Kuran cannot supports both things i.e. some at some place it allows voting of women but at some places it does not...
Can please some one throw light at this?

What does Bhagvat Gita or Ramayan or Upanishad has to say about voting rights of women? What does Bible and Torah say about it?
There are no 2 version of Quran but the interpretation may differ. There was no voting 1400 years back although Islam introduced democracy but it was not the same as today and only a selected bench of scholors used to vote for the ruler and it did not advocate dynasty rule. QUran might not ask women to vote explicitly but then there is nothing that stops them from voting. Contrary to the wide spread belief Islam gives more legal rights to women than any other religion. A woman can have right in her parents property. A widow or divorcee can re-marry. Killing girl child is strictly prohibited. A woman can run a business she can offer prayers along with MALEs etc etc.
Brother Sohail wanted you to get in touch with Cleric so that u get all questions answered at once and if u are really serious to get answers then u must not mind spending time and energy to find the real truth even if it hurts a bit :)

Hey Buddy,

There is a fair chance you may get responses from fake IDs...misnomers ... or polemicists.

Best would be to check with any scholar at any of the Islamic Centers. There are hundreds of Islamic Centers every where in USA.

Internet is always a dangerous place to learn religion ....

Have a good day buddy!

The Quran is a very consistent book. There are no inconsistencies in it. There is only one version of the Quran. Interpretations may be different, but they cannot veer too far from the truth, otherwise their value becomes extinct. If the scholars say that voting is permissible for women, then on the basis of what they have interpreted out of what they have studied, then that is true. It is also true that the Prophet( peace be upon him) had urged the Muslim community to acquire knowledge, even if it meant going as far as China from Arabia. Even in this instance, no distinction between male of female is made.
