By implication is not Justice Aiyar also understanding national interest when AEC Chief himself a scientist would know better than anyone ? Or he just is Anti-American or Pro Chinese ?
Dr. Srinivasan is certainly one of those persons who knows what he is speaking about, being close to 80. He knows how and why the search for uranium was slowed down while the pace of building nuclear reactors were accelerated. After all, he was in-charge of all this at one time. Now when the power stations are starving for fuel, what alternatives we are left with. And apart from nuclear isolation, we can hardly afford isolation on fronts of export of mangoes and many other farm based products. We have the farmers and their starvation due to lack of power to be concerned about. Therefore we should concentrate on issues related to cost of power rather than on testing bombs which we all know are never going to be used.

Krishna, the first consideration is to get the power generated. Then comes the cost. And I do not think testing of Bombs has anything to do with generating power. There is a big power crises on the horizon and we have to find a solution today. Otherwise, we shall be back to an era of 18 hours a day power cut. Yes, it is very much possible if we do not add several Mega Power projects. Many of them will be Thermal Units, a couple of them at the best of Hydro-based and some of them have to be the Nuclear Reactors. We must have to chose from all available sources while keeping an eye on the future possibilities. And the choices with us are very limited.
The combination will give us a realistic cost. We can not have the cheapest ones only. That is not going to fulfil even 5% of the increment in our power requirements. Otherwise we will be left far behind. And we can not sit quite and wait for the future developments on the non-conventional energy sources. If we do that we have to search for wood fuel for tomorrow morning's cooking. Even that may not be available.
Yes, we have to have Bombs as well as have to go ahead in exporting Mangoes.
Let us boldly teach the west on economics in this light! Keeping the money in pocket while thousands of people are dying of starvation every day, all over the nation that can be comfortably manipulated by issue of diminished number of deaths, is not growth! According to me, the growth our nation as I see in rural areas most our sophisticated people don't know the condition as they don't bother to visit rural areas, is NEGARIVE 90%(percent)! Who is responsible for such pathetic condition? A government which is not performing fast but wasting energy, time and money in unwanted Nuke Agreement is totally responsible. Provision of wind generation of power, solar power productions and other similar power productions are easy, economical and fast ways of creation of massive rural employment and at same time provision of power for rural power for agriculture and cottage industries etc.,! This the real growth attached without nuke agreement!

Do you really think it is because of the western influence? No, the petty politics at the grass root level is the real culprit. There are enough avenues available. And these handful of people are really difficult for us to tackle.
No, Nil, generation from Solar, Wind, etc. are neither economical and nor practical at present context to generate in large quantity. We have to have a big land area to install these. Its upkeep is a problem as well. Definitely, it is not easy either. Yes, we can have a sizable number of these micro units. Who are going to produce so many of them? And massive subsidy attached with it will go into drain for sure. But let it be. Let us have at least increased presence of these non conventional sources of energy, in the length and breadth of the country.
I hereby affirm and declare that I am neither a leftist nor a communist nor in association of such circle! The proposition of attaching the meaning of " GROWTH" of a nation entirely to the reserve funds in banks is entirely absurd as it is definitely misleading of the health of the nation! If that is also borrowed from western economics, there cannot be any opposition to detaching it to give an over all picture of the general health of a nation that will include ESSENTIALLY the availability of the basic needs of food, clothes to wear and finally a dwelling place to live in to the entire population, only when Mr. Srinivasan a nation can pronounce the word growth! That is the perfect economics!

Dear Gautam,
While I agree with you that it is essential to include ALL in the nation's growth, I fail to understand how we can provide food, clothing and shelter to all, without achieving GDP growth. Do you know that in excess of 50% of the Indian population is below 25 years of age. Forget everything else, just to provide employment to the millions that will be entering the work force in the next 10 years, will require the country to growt in excess of 9%. I am not sure where you learnt the "perfect economics".

Even the US is not able to do that, let alone other countries. I think none of the succeeding governments have ignored trying giving the means to the poor people to earn themselves Roti, Kapda aur Makan. May be it is the System Failure to be blamed or may be the enormous task is the culprit. Or may be the level of corruption, preventing the good intention to filter through to these poor.
Sanjay, I would like to support your argument in telling one thing. The NTR government in Andhra Pradesh had introduced the much fan-fared Rs. 2 a Kilo Rice Plan in the entire state in early eighties and had enforced a total Prohibition. The intention was very noble. But the schemes failed miserably taking Andhra back to Stone Age. There was no possibility of continuation of those schemes.
And now we see several State governments announcing schemes of providing free power to farmers and the like. It is very difficult to sustain such thing. Yes the economic growth can give some solace but it does not work.
Mr. M.R. Srinivasan, I regret to say, is highly prejudicial while supporting the Nuke deal! I can't simply understand such elite ones missing the totality of an issue while offering their views! I hate such highly nasty bias to bring leftists into discussion while we discuss the issue purely on the merits of the case as a gentleman. Let us not be carried away by seeing others, totally losing the importance of the matter! We have to maintain extreme balance while deliberating into a crucial matter. I am neither a left nor a right, but proud to say that I am a non-aligned purely based upon merits of a case on a totalitarian view! We have seen enough of modernism and the primary reason why our nation is terribly suffering today is due to forgetting our own ancient values and simply blindly copying west! Visiting west is not to replace Indian by western, which happens due to certain type rural emotion!

I would like to put things this way. Unless we have enough electricity, we may not be able to light those 50% of villages that are not yet connected. And this along with Roads to those, will bring about the real change you are dreaming about.
In reality, we have no option but to go for those reactors. Whether it is through 123 or not. May be we can think of something else sometime later when those are really available.
We have totally failed in exploring the enormous potential of hydro-electric power that is criminally wasted. If this fact is denied, well I have to question the competency of engineers! More than eighty percent of water is wasted into seas! Are we technically competent to be silent spectators at such colossal waste when we are short of power generation?

Nil, we do not have a real potential here as well. Practically, there can not be any more of these Big Dams coming up. You can not displace even a single person. Leave aside several thousands of them. Taking your argument into stride I would say that these Dams are not full-proof either and they can create havoc as well. The Chernobyl disaster's out come is now public. The actual damage has been far less than that was suggested at that time. I am not saying that these aspects are unimportant. But, I would rather go for the nuclear energy as it is proved to be safer than all her sisters.
I am not telling here as to whether the 123 Deal is wrong or right. What I wish to tell you is that we do not have many other options left. We have to have at least some good percentage of energy coming out of these reactors. Side by side, we can venture to improve our percentage in all others, by reducing those of Thermal Generation.
Solar power can be easily utilized for rural electrification. Are we running shortage of solar radiation? The so called modern people are not purposeful but run after some imaginative sophistication to blindly copy western countries perhaps! This is a psychic problem that conceals facts! I can call this as western intoxication! Wind and tidal powers can also be complimentary sources. I am not prejudicial to avoid nuke energy! But, I know compared to my above suggested conventional sources, how risky is nuke energy, if Mr. Srinivasan, the nuke scientist is regretfully not aware of! The so called modern view is to fix priority no on the basis of risk to life but on the basis of economy. I will say with all out confidence that priority should be based ONLY upon life even if it is the life of one as life is costlier to any huge amount!
Definitely we have good sunlight hours with us. But even with a handsome subsidy on it, how many solar power home are there around, including those in Developed countries? Let alone mega Projects. Another thing, Generating electricity is one thing and saving it to run our Fridge and Oven in the night is altogether a different thing. No, Nil, the technology is not yet ripe for us to harvest.
The same is the case with Wind Energy. Practically, I would sum up these non-conventional energy as fancy, in present context. We can not heavily depend on these, at least in near future.
Leakage of radiation from reactor during operation, leakage due to damages on account of natural calamities and even huge risk of entire %u201Copen up%u201D of the reactor resulting in a total exposure to radiation leading to massive deaths as happened in Japan during 1945. In case of bombing the reactor which will be the first and foremost target, either by an enemy or even by perhaps U.S. who cannot be relied upon due to the one fact, that they supply most sophisticated bombers etc., with heavy financial help to Pakistan regularly while pleading peace with India! What is the intention behind? Can the luminaries explain whether we can trust such cunning notorious US retaining some ultimate motives behind such Nuke deal! C.I.A. is notorios! Their present and past deals with several nations all over world with total lies in case of Iraq to UN should open the eyes of Mr. M.R.Srinivasan, who tries not only to mislead the Nation but also endangering the welfare of the entire nation!

Justice V.R.Krishna Iyer is very right in his caution to the Prime Minister on the Nuke Agreement! Justice V.R.Krishan Iyer is a legal luminary with brilliant record and his judicial perfection. His judicial decisions were land marks in judicial system. I am sure that this nation is running in an "INTENSE BRAIN DRAIN" at all levels! Such unfortunate situation has risen due to prevalent intense ego and inadequate appropriate knowledge, rendering more importance to unwarranted fashion, accent of language etc.,!

The High 'I.Q.' of the present days have turned exactly diagonally opposite to ponder over wrong aspects of the governing methods and decision making processes, which is most unfortunate, as proved without any doubt by present lage scale chaos every where in the nation! It is amazing that the so called luminaries and elites totally mislead the country in almost all issues especially, the vital matters!
