i lost my patience reading this tortured article mid way. it is amazing to me how some "journos" can write so much bs about so little that flies in the face of known truth.

that is normal behaviour of a JNU professor/journalist/car expert/nuclear expert/peace expert etc.

As someone said, the pathetic standards of indian journalism are direct consequence of leftist influence in media.

Left Front's principled stand!! I am zapped.
by Bharath Kumar on Aug 28, 2007 04:00 PM  Permalink

While I do agree that the PM precipitated the crisis, don't try to tell us that Left has principled stand on India's growing proximity to the US. They had token protests once or twice about the growing military relationship. But, it required the PM's unwarranted shooting off his mouth for Left Front to realise that India is suddenly becoming too close to the US. The 10year defence co-operation pact, military exercises, India's voting against Iran only evoked lip service from Left. Why couldn't they have threatened to pull out of the Government when these events happened? Or atleast lay out the ground rules on engagement with the US. I guess the Left loved sharing power with the centre more than its policy of US opposition then. But, when openly challenged by the PM, all the principles of Left have suddenly come to the fore. Whatever the pluses of Left Front (I am sure there are more than a few), don't make claims like having most intellectuals within its fold compared to any other party or only principled party and so on. (Actually joining the UPA itself is against their principle!!)

Its not about commies... but about the N-deal
by Seshadri on Aug 28, 2007 03:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Guys... open your minds and read it... there are various ways of perception... which demonstrates the various commie-bashing posts in this forum...
Am not in favour of commies... but this deal may provide a back door which may threaten our national interests or tie down our hands substantially in matters of security... moreover, US is aligning itself for a stronger base in Asia... by being benign with both India and pakistan... N-deal to us and economic funds to pak...
Learn to think out of the box also... what would hurt if we had an open debate on the N-deal??? It is true that the facts of the deal are being released - obviously under instructions of the cong high command - now... it is not like you get fuel from US on day 1 and india gets 100% electricity on day 2... there is a gestation period for that too... 5-10 years??? and the electricity generated should be economically feasible...Can india be not self reliant or find alternative sources to meet our energy demands???
The answer to all these questions - both political and scientifical - would be had only through a proper debate... and not by insisting that the deal would profit India...
Dear all... do not think superficially and comment out of the blues...

Commies are right for an entirely wrong reason. They oppose the deal because they hate US and love China. They don't oppose the deal because because it is actually capable of reducing India's strategic military options like nuclear and missile testing.

Life many others like them, communists have not bothered to go deep into the details of the deal. The most erudite analysis of the deal, its effect on indian security environment is available at www.newsinsight.net

Left-China-Pakistan

Rather by coincidence the only countries opposing strategic realtion and nuclear deal is CHINA and Pakistan. SO naturally when left's stand match with them, what can an aam athmi think about that?
Dr.Singh begging to Karat? Only Leftie Bidwai can write like this. But the reality is left will loose the proxy power if the election is held now.

Though I am no friend of leftists, the arrogant behaviour of Dr. Singh in first hiding the details from public and later in throwing a red rag to fundamentalists like Karat is a typical behaviour of a politician who has something to hide.
I suspect, manmohan singh has calculated on public sympathy and not on the scrutiny of the deal that might follow.

A big hypocrite indeed !!
by A G on Aug 28, 2007 03:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Bidwai's article is full of humour. While the leftists love to brand BJP as communal in each and very reference to it, whether it is correct or not, (Repeat, repeat, repeat till people start believing) why are they now squirming when they have been branded as pro-china and anti-india. They deserve a similar treatment. Meanwhile, it is a pity that there is not a single, well researched and intelligent article by any columnist in India on this important issue except by Arun Shourie. Just hot air, emotion and criticism or or blind support for the deal. Compare with journalists like Friedman . Did anyone actually visit US to get their viewpoint too on this whole affair ?

US view point? Again the leftists will make Dr.Singh to 'beg' (as Praful tells).
Even Arun Shourie's article was like a lawyer arguing to delay the lost case!!!

The Maoist rant
by Jaganniwas Iyer on Aug 28, 2007 02:27 PM  Permalink

Bidwai the commie is back again, and how. He has suddenly began smelling 'McCarthyism' in India. Well, the real and effective answer to Stalinist-Marxist-Maoist blackmail, terror ans anti-national sabotage is a good, hefty dose of McCarthyism. We need an Indian McCarthy to hound the Left out of EVERY citadel of power, media, intelligentsia and academia, plus of course, government. High time. As for Bidwai's tirade against third-rate half-literate journos, they happen to be the spectacular contribution of the Left to India society. After all, they come from the Leftist stys of JNU, Stephens, Xaviers, etc. all Nehruvian-Leftist addas.
