If we do not get this deal we ll spend another 10 years in the dark without electricity till we have the technology to generate power by using Thorium. We still do not have the final tech to generate power through these Fast Breeder Reactors. We should take this deal to generate power and speed up the research on fast breeder reactors so that as soon as we have the production capabalities using thorium based technology we can just stop importing uranium. But right now we need Uranium based tech so that we get power and we are nt left behind and go back to the dark ages... and yah this deal is only civilian so no need to worry abt military nuclear instalations. n we are free to test nuclear weapons. the Hyde Act is just a cosmetic effect by the US government to shut the mouths of the Non proliferation hawks in washington who are opposing this deal tooth n nail... The US understand it has no leverage to stop India from testing weapons and it dosnt want to risk billions of dollars of investment by imposing nay sanctions. remember 1998 aftre the tests the imposed sanctions but had to bite the dust and remove sanctions after realizing it was their industries that were suffering.. so be cool and just use this deal to the maximum and do not let the commies Headless Chickens take India back to the dark ages.
Please let us understand the facts of the matter, India is having 28 Reactors and out of 28 only 10 are for inspection and 18 are without inspection in the agreement. The fuel shall be supplied by USA for our Power Reactors. There are shifting of reactors. The Chaina is dominating export to USA, hereafter India will dominate export to USA, that is reason Left got angered on PM. Because there is pressure from Chaina Govt. on Left. This is very serious, and if people of this copuntry knows the fact, why left opposed the 123 agreement, then they will even lost WB nd Kerala. The senior left leaders had visited to China and planned the policy. There is nothing serious in 123 agreement, only India must talk with USA before any military use of automic energy, if it is for civil and power purpose there is no need of talk before using automic energy. It is fact that after explosion in Rajastan, the state is having massive rains years after years. Whether left will undertsand the basic problems. The people of this country need food and shelter, our image in world is poor country. The George Fernandes a senior leader of NDA talking like street line politicians, which is miserable madness.

Only 2 nations in the whole world are opposing this Indo US nuclear deal, China and Pakistan.... China has the Most Favored NAtion status with the US and opposes the same status for India. China has got a similar nuclear deal with the US bt opposes the deal with India... Jyoiti Basu of CPM protested against Indian defence againt chinese invasion of india in 1962 and was jailed by Nehru for anti India activities. Basu went on to become the CM of bengal. Commies never condemn Chinese claim of arunachal Pradesh whn the people themselves want top be part of India.. CPM opposes Indian nuclear progress bt has no problems with Chinas nuclear arming of pakistan whch are targeted towards India and supports iranian nuclear program. The communists oppose ndustrialiazation in India and went on killing 100's of poor farmers in Singur and Nandigram tryin to grab farmers fertile land for setting up industries. Commies are ruling bengal for more than 30 years now and have reduced bengal from being the finest to being the poorest.. Only big industry in commie ruled states bangal and kerala are trade unions and their number one product is strikes and bandh. Commies vociferously opposed introduction of computers by rajiv gandhi, commies cald computers as evil and against national interest. Commies neva condemned chinese invasion of India in 1962. Commies do not recognize aksai chin in kashmir as part of india. And yes the commies got a new name now "Headless Chickens and Spineless Morons".
123 agreement is better than 12345 point agreement signed by the old PM Nehroo with China, got stabbed in the back and lost a lot of territory ! ha ha ha ha......
If any of these idiots hav any understanding of power n energy sector, they shud very well realise that to even cook 1 time meal for India's 1 billion plus people, we wont hav enough energy in next 5-10 yrs. In power sector, thanx to myopic policies of successive govts, across all parties and states, we r in deep shit and in next 3-5 yrs, all the generation will go over as there is neither enough capacity nor capable manpower to run the age old power houses. There has been no fresh investment, no new projects commissioned, and no new hiring of skilled quality engineers in this sector which requires 10-20 yrs to start giving benefits while consumption has increased and so has theft , irresponsibility, incompetence and corruption. Under these conditions, we have to choose, to be cowards and destroy ourselves, or choose to be bold and strong and engineer change by playing a greater role in the world and for ourselves.

If US would have seen this scenario in their strategic analysis, that they do for next 20-30 years, they wouldn't have even offered us this deal. They would have wanted India to remain weak. They offered us this deal because their analysis predicted India to be a superpower by 2020-2030. They don't want India to develop its military power.

Thanks...defence contractor you say !! And please also tell me this......payments are general made by interested private players to govt. agencies/persons to get some monetory benefit..... In a deal between two governments US & India.....who pays whom?

US government will only pass the law to provide technology to India. The reactors and necessary components will be built by big companies. Couldnt find detailed list, but here is a small list of companies that make the components or reactors: http://www.world-nuclear.org/reference/portal/nuclear_fuel_processing.html Also, these companies finance presidential election in US.

So tell me if this works this way......there are more than one supplier of reactors. Possibly more than 5. And all of them are paying the congress ( Which is part of a coalition) to get the deal passed and then award the contract for the reactors to them ?? So all of them pay or any one pays?
In India this would normally be said that neighbours fight because one accuses the other of staeling the milk from his cow. A cow that he plans to buy in future !!! :D:D:D
I do not know if it works this way with those reactor suppliers !!

I read that Mayawati declared some hundred crore property. Sharad Pawar has over 1000 cr. property. Do you still wonder from where these politicians get money?
I can understand the Iraq war thing you say. It is between the companies & their govt. One govt. So it's a win-win both ways. US govt gets money for war & they get post war deals.
But here 2 govts aere involved at the moment. Defence ccontractors are nowhere in the picture as yet. Next they have to deal with a foreign party ( Congress you said not Indian govt). And by the time that the bidding & awarding of contracts come into play ( which could be more than a couple of years away) the congress could be sitting in the opposition !!! So what happens to all that money? And even if they are in govt,. what prevents them from awarding the contract to another contractor?
So it is too far fetched an idea to think that Congress has been paid off to get this deal through !! Doesn't pass muster logically.

No I dont wonder. They get the money from interested private parties/contractors. But I wonder if Sharad Pawar gets money from Gujarat govt. to allot a match to Ahmedabad or he gets money from Delhi govt. to get some agricultural survey done !!!

Companies in US offer either money or share in their companies just to pass the deal. This is a risk factor. They might loose the deal too. Contractors also have subcontracting deals with small companies from where money is channelled. When deal will be passed, India will allocate contracts on basis of internal analysis, it can not be open bidding. So those contractors will be awarded deals. Where 30-40 billions of dollars are involved, no one thinks of few millions. Its the risk they are ready to take. This is how business works. More risk more returns. Blackwater and Haliburten spend millions before Iraq war, now they are reaping profits from Iraq war.
CPIM has two issues: (1) Protect China, (2) Rally Muslims!
All these tall talk of Congress will haunt them, as soon as Muslims start rallying against the deal, and Lalu Prasads (who cannot do without Muslim Vote) chickening out.
India has an active development program featuring both fast and thermal breeder reactors.
India%u2019s first 40 MWt Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) attained criticality on 18th October 1985. Thus, India became the sixth nation to have the technology to build and operate a FBTR after US, UK, France, Japan and the former USSR. India has developed the technology to produce the plutonium rich U-Pu mixed carbide fuel. This can be used in the Fast Breeder Reactor.
At present the scientists of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), one of the nuclear R & D institutions of India, are engaged in the construction of another FBR - the 500 MWe prototype fast breeder reactor - at Kalpakkam, near Chennai.
India has the capability to use Thorium Cycle based processes to extract nuclear fuel. This is of special significance to the Indian nuclear power generation strategy as India has large reserves of thorium %u2014 about 360,000 tonnes %u2014 that can fuel nuclear projects for an estimated 2,500 years. But the hitch is with the expensive nature of the construction of Fast Breeder Reactor in comparison with the Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) in use. This is one of the main reasons why India is looking at the cheaper option - Uranium fuel.
