hypocricy of Left (communists )
by ashish sinha on Aug 21, 2007 09:16 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

when india had conducted nuclear tests in 98, they said, Girl education and social upliftment should have been funded instead of nuclear test.

Now they are worrying about future tests and ignoring the social upliftment that this deal will bring us. Lots of jobs in energy sector. Electricity to poor framers, poor shopkeepers, electricity to villages who have never yet seen it. Why is left not worried about the poor indian masses ?

And when Chineese claim arunachal pradesh, leftists sits quiet.

Do they even care for India ?

we dont need another test
by ashish sinha on Aug 21, 2007 09:08 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

we do not need another nuclear test. with all the credibility we have we can already make bombs much powerful than those that were dropped on Japan.

research in bombs is not attractive anymore. So where is the question for nuclear test. we need research in delivery of bombs not bombs themselves.

people should not be fooled by those who oppose this deal on the grounds of future tests. Nuclear bomb is so powerful that even a rudimentary bomb would be enuff.

having already tested nuclear bomb, india is in a very safe position to accept this deal.

No issue with India's credibility!. India should not take this deal!.
by Shadow on Aug 21, 2007 09:00 AM  Permalink

No problem with credibility at all whatsoever! All such talks are indirect way to put pressure to materialize this deal. Ambassador Sen is kinda getting egostic and defensive about this deal because he penned it and hence want to see to it that it will go through!. Which is kinda unpatriotic in a way. If Mr. Sen himself pre-decided that the deal should go through why the hell there is a need for dicussion on this. Whether BJP supports this deal or not it is highly irresponsible of the congress government and our PM to mislead the people and also do this deal in a shroud of secrecy. It is also highly undesirable for congress government to see through this deal without taking care of India's legitimate concerns. If this deal is off if India test a nuclear device then accepting this deal tantamounts to signing the CTBT which India so long refused to do so and we are right in not signing those treaties!. Ambassador Ronnen Sen should stop working for US and start working for India. May be who knows he is a rogue double of US too.

Contradictory statements...
by rajesh _ on Aug 21, 2007 08:59 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The US ppl are making contradictory statements here...

" McCormack had on August 14 set off a storm in India when he said that in the event of India conducting a nuclear test, the US has the right the seek return of all material supplied under the 123 Agreement."

" But India's envoy to the United States Ronen Sen had said Washington has clarified to New Delhi that its position remains that the civil nuclear cooperation will not be suspended automatically even if an atomic test was conducted. "

Wonder which one is to be believed.

The responsibility for these contradictory statements also lies with our own govt. They have not yet contradicted US claim that we are not free to do nuclear tests and that we are bound to accept Hyde provisions.

US' interest in India's well-being....
by udayakumar on Aug 21, 2007 08:48 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am astonished at the comments by those educated persons that US is doing a great favour to India by 123 agreement. You can see from the past, whenever US has done something, it has done it only for its selfish motive. Just because India happened to be a place of cheap international coolies for IT professional, US preferred them. I am at a loss to understand how people react to it. As if they have done a great favour. If they get cheaper coolies elsewhere, they will ditch all Indians... All those people, who work in US on behalf of IT industry, do you know what is the standard billing rate? What is billing your company charges? What is the portion you are getting? Just you live in a poor country, those money means a lot for you. But for US, they are not able to find such cheap coolies elsewhere. Once they find it, you will be ditched.

cut the cra.p!. What are you cribbing about? Do you know any economics to understand how businesses works? All people work for money for some form of payment and that doesn't make them coolie or cheap!. The rate is determined by demand vs. supply cycle!. IT people are called Knowledge Workers!. Millions and Millions of people are employed by so many companies to get their systems automated so that they can get more productive!. IT is THE THING!. So you get into the IT too, or did you get fired for being a bad programmer and you are talking out of spite!. :)

dear udayakumar,

america means business. if it gets a cheaper coolie somewhere else why should it not ditch us ? Emotions dont work in business. Would not you change your job if someone else pays you higher ? So stop talking about this ditching.

agreed that we work as cheap coolies, but we are cheap only when you compare to american salaries. we indians do not set american salary levels, and anyways we are getting much better salary if we compare ourselves with indians of older generations. So do not fret.

If america has its interests, we should also pursue our own interest. We are paying in dollars for all the equioment we shall get from america, and there are provisions in the agreement for cancellation of the deal.

We need to use each other. No body is anybody's friend. Its only interests that matter. If america is using us, we must also use america to our interests.

Right now a lot of indian interest can be served by this treaty. plenty of electricity and lots of jobs would be created as a result of this.

We as a country would be foolish to reject this deal.

Truth Will Set You Free
by Jehan Mir on Aug 21, 2007 08:13 AM  Permalink

Come on Gallegos, tell the truth for once. Don't be bashful !

You don't want to reduce India's energy shortfalls or improve daily lives or provide them access to advanced technologies.

You are dying to get into India's pants so that you can desecrate their air, land and seas and have good old Ganga Dins to do the fighting for you in your next mis-adventure.

You will never tell the truth because you know that would set the Indians free.

Ronan Sen is lying...
by Peter Parker on Aug 21, 2007 06:51 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

He is lying as the state department spokesman clearly said that they will seek the return of all material including the reprocessed material as well as the reactors. This will just lead to economic sanctions for sure if india tests.
Here ronan sen talks about the 1 year cooling off period, thats just crap as anyone from the US gov will tell you.

why do we need another nuclear test.

just one bomb that we can make right is several times stronger than those dropped on japan.

Is that not enough as a deterrent ?

With China and Pakistan around we need defense systems more stronger than just electricity.
There are other sources to generate power Nuclear energy is not the only one.
Secondly with 123 agreement how much time will it take to start a reactor and produce electricity commercially, by the same time we can tap other resources like wind, hydel and even by coal.
If China or pakistan attacks US will not come to help us.
Why not work a similar 123 agreement with Russia or France, Why USA.
Once they have the power to control indias growth we will be more dominated by US which they like to do always, its the question of Freedom and self reliance.
No need of US 123 agreement as they say that the next president of US has the right to continue or discontinue the deal where as all the successors of Indian goverment has to follow this deal, In this win-win situation they are getting more than we do.
As it is our economy growth is 8% which is just enough more can be done in the field of Education and infrastructure and upliftment of the downward then spending dollare to buy this Old technology. Same money can be put to increase our research and development on NuKe capabilities.
with a one Trillion economy we ourselves can do wonders why beg then.
