There is no doubt that we need nuclear energy in association with other forms of energy like wind, solar etc. But those should not be at the cost of our national sovereignty. The Indo-Us Nuclear Deal as it stands now is a hush-hush affair and lacks transparency. So far it appears that there will be curb on our indegenous technologies.

Solar is the best alternative. To run a car, we need foot ball ground size solar panel. Great alternative! To power a house, we need to keep the whole house w/ hundred thousand dollars for each house & by the time, it gets break even, we need to change the panel.
Solar is the best alternative. We can fit solar into the mud-huts in kolkatta & produce energy.
Regarding wind, if there is no wind, we can ask all the lords. In the worst case, if there is no wind, we can do the style old kitchen oven (using a long pipe blow the turbine)

I know atleast one house in kolkatta might have these type of kitchen to get example. We can send team of expert to get the wind blowing technology from Kolkatta kitchens.

I am not sure whether you are conversant with energy technologists. But if you go through the journals and literatures related to this you will find even in the western countries the policy makers are opting for alterantives like solar, wind, bio-fuel, geo-thermal etc. and the cheaper version of these are being explored. Nuclear Energy is not a cost-effective option considering the capital cost, safety cost, waste disposal cost and fuel recycling cost. Even then it might be one of the best alternatives considering the present demand of power. But again the deal with a country like US, who dropped atom bombs twice and who do not hesitate to topple sovereign governments to get hold of their oil storage, should be dealt with cautiously.
Whatever your name. Please dont talk too much if u dont have the knowledge.Nucleur deal is beneficial to us.I think u might be from Bihar or UP ? Stop it and pleaese expect india's growth.

There is no doubt nuclear energy is the most efficient source of energy. but do we need that sort of energy at the cost of our sovereignty? i don't think so..

Also, we can make a broaden road to accomodate those cars in the next 100 years after clearing these stays in courts etc.

Really india is a great democratic organisation where the few ppl who dont know anything abt the subject is able to raise voice and also get it there way. Gr8 going the only country in the world who will bleed itself just for sake of getting the upper hand in its functioning. This is the reason why today youth doesnt want to be associated with the political or social system of india. Everyt time we say go into politics, IAS, IPS, IFS but when Dr. Manmohan Singh who is there in this field for last 25years cant do it with his team how can anyone else can?

i agree with you, there is vast gap regarding knowledge content amongs the people..some know very few things but speak more and few who have experience and knowledge are pulled down by these so called literate people for their vested interest...its domocracy u c...we have to bear them evening after knowing their past and present perfomances in state and centre... its the only chance for India to move to the next level of economy growth...liberation is a process with cannot be stopped or altered especially with the kind of population we have.. Indian culture and integrity is so strong it is too big for any country to take chances against us... PM has taken calculated risk which is worth its merit and would yield gr8 results..
we definitely stand to gain with this deal. since for 'us' and the 'US', we have comon enemy in teh form of China. but the problem could be in the form of the US gaining access to our unique technology of preparing a nuke with mud(silica)...
I have been following the humongous Indo- US nuclear co-operation for sometime now. My question is very simple, which is cheaper and safer? Energy generated from windmills and wave turbines, or nuclear. Why are we hell bent on creativng a Chernobyl sometime in future, when 85000 MW of installed capacity of wind power alone is available to us along our vast coastline, the desert, and in the Himalayas.Add to this the installed capapcity of wave turbines from that immense coastline. These sources are also clean and green. And I bet they are finiancially as viable as the nuclear option. The motive here is different. It has more to do with access to sophisticated technology, security concerns, and so on, what with having to live every day with the biggest rogue state as our immediate neighbour.

Financial viability of wind and wave energy is debatable. Nuclear energy is the most efficient energy source. I am against the deal though.. i don't trust US

I think instead of being sarcastic you should really do some homework. California which is a US state is already implementing million solar rooftops program to support its energy needs. They are using the latest cleanest tech. we should be going for that.

You need a mix of all of them, - all alternative sources are needed man- Enegry consumptuion is growing hugely.

other sources of energy like wind, solar are yet in a developmental stage. The huge energy demands of India need to be immediately addressed. So alongwith da other sources nuclear energy is da best option. It also helps INDIA leap in da elite group of responsible nations.
