Buclear tests
by Rajagopal Nair on Aug 17, 2007 10:52 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

US says it willact if india Conducts nuclear tests. How they will react? attacking India with
its Militory might? Then get ready. We Indians should unite together to thwart any aerican attack. They are blackmailing us. What a government we got. It seems they did not read the clause before signing the agreement. Perhaps their english might be weak. Poor show.

They can't attack India, they want to manipulate India against China. The Us needs India more than vice versa.

America invented the computer, america invented the electronics. It is the duty of the countries to pay back to america. I hope India is doing its best to give some business to america, i expect others also, who enjoyed american money have to return them business.

PM's assurance seems to be a humbug
by Michael Raj on Aug 17, 2007 10:42 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Manmohan Singh has been giving assurances that India has retained the right to test its nuclear weapons. But now the US says that it will act if India conducts any test. We the common people do not undersatand what is going on in India. Is it that the learned Manmohan not understood the 123 agreement properly? or is he trying to expose the security of our country? or is he trying to cover up the mistakes they have committed in signing the deal? or is he a mere rubber stamp?, may be a rubber stamp of a lady named Sonia who has no credibility to be a politician. Just because she was married to a member of a Nehru family, I do not thinh that she possesses the necessary quality to command this kind of respect from politicians. Is there no none in the Congress to mantle the party. It is a shame that an indiginous party is dependant on a lady who has no charisma or leadership qualities, and who is going to plunge the country into trouble. On example is the extradition case of Quotrocchi which has brought shame to the entire nation and its system. Another case could be this nuclear deal. I don not know how many of such deals our mother India has to withstand...????

by not having a seat in the security council.

Jawaharlal Nehru "declined a United States informal offer" to India to "take the permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council" around 1953. Nehru declined the offer about the same time as he turned down "with scorn" John Foster Dulles' support for an Indian Monroe Doctrine. Nehru did so on the beliefs that India should remain a neutral wedge in world politics, becoming the founding member of the Non-aligned Movement.

Nuclear deal
by arungopal agarwal on Aug 17, 2007 10:40 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Buyer does not have any choice with a monopolistic seller, Nobody other than US and Australia has offerred India N fuel. We are to decide whether we need a N-bomb or energy for our fields and industry. It appears, we are at infant stage of nuclear technology and cannot do any further progress without the assistance of others. There is no use to abuse or curse US, it is for us, we take it or not.

Just give a search in wikipedia "fast breeder reactor" and you will come to know at what stage we are. Best scenario is we need both Nuclear weapons (because as a minimum deterrence as our neighbours cannot be trusted)and we want Nuclear energy for our industrial growth. And there is always an option for those who try to find it.

not good
by SUBHISH kumar on Aug 17, 2007 10:40 AM  Permalink

It is pretty sad to see that our diplomats could not understand the US politics and they failed to understand each and every point of the agreement. If US says that there are provisions in the agreement for cancellationif India conducts nuke test, then it is a serious mistake/ignorance made by our diplomats or they again succumbed to US politics.
The 123 agreement should have put on a debate before a final decision.

The power per unit will be easily more than Rs 10,
in other words we can't afford it. The problem with nuclear power plants is that they are difficult to construct, they are expensive, they need high security, plus there is need for waste
treatment facility and last but not the least it
has a life of 40-60 years and the cost of dismantling the plant alone works out to be $300
million, which has to be again added as a fixed cost.

RE:RE:Need help
by hiral joshi on Aug 17, 2007 10:57 AM  Permalink
Yes I know that. Putting up the plant would be easy because of the deal but operative cost will run very high for atleast 25 to 50 years. On the other hand maintainance, and waste disposal will be a biggest headache. Our industries and govt fail to protect people from even simple pollution like pesticides or refinery waste then how will our govt tackle the disposal of large amount of nuclear waste? India has already 14 reactors.
