12 yr old girl is considered threat to the country and all the wanted criminals are given a free entry in india, its very amusing, brainless characters. Or being the daugther of a politician ,then the airport officials are right in their action, because politicians can go to any extent. All politicians are ruthless and shameless creatures except a few

It is the duty of the airline staff at the checkin counter to check that the passenger has the right visa for their destination. In some countries (probably not in the US)the immigration official at departure also checks this. This is supposed to be followed all over the world. So the airline staff had failed in their duty. If they had been alert the child would not have been allowed to leave the US in the first place.

Normally No. The immigration official's duty is to check if there is visa for the visiting country. Sometimes it slips - they could have thought that being an Indian she is a returning resident or something
Although harsh but I think India authority has done the right thing and I am surprised that they did it. Well done atleast other department will also do the same when rule is rule you can't break it. Nobody should take India as granted.

Wonder if your comment/observation would be the same if your daughter/any other family member faced it. The daughter is of Indian origin and these are the guys our politicians (along with their families on state funded vacations) go to woo (read beg) for investment in India

I wonder if your comment/observation would be the same if the girl and her mother were NOT BENGALI.
We cannot follow what USA officer will do in the same senario.we have to follow our rules. Now there is a term called HUMANITY AND YOU CAN APPLY THIS THING WITH PRIOPER JUSTIFICATION AND CAUSESLY. For this chiled we can wait for 24 hrs. She can be wiait in lounge ? I have a question for those official if the same things will hapened for any politians relative case?Answer is no. We hope that in such senario they will show much maturity. I feel sory for this girls who suffered this problems due to his parents mistake as well as those officials who behave just like a brutal.

Officers could keep the child and parent under US consulate untill the visa stamped passport arrives or ask US consulate to take care of these people as they hold US citizenship instead of deporting

You are right...the authorities should not be bias but in many cases we find that they are bias and only common man is subjected to the 'actual' rules.

That is because nobody wishes to lose there jobs -- either way. What if the woman and the daughter were made to sit in the lounge for 24 hours. If they had fallen sick then the immigration guys would have been blamed. If they had fled for some reason you know who would be blamed
Why such a hue and cry over an official doing his/her duty. If the child had entered the country without a proper visa, the immigration officer is within his/her rights to deport her.

Absolutely agree. Don't forget your important documents. Rules are rules. The Americans are worse.

Leave entering a Western country. You cannot even leave Indian airport without a visa for any western country. The immigration officials and the airline staff will ask for the visa even before issuing boarding pass and stamping exit pass in your passport
What steps the american authorities would have taken if the same thing happened in america? and rediff please get the spelling of netaji right from next time.
After getting their US passport, they "forgot", a important travel document with which they are suppose to enter India... You deserve it 100 times mr.Tirthankar Gosh! Now you are blaming the officials! First realise your fault that you "forgot" the passport! Does a passport add to your checkin luggage weight? Try to respect your country's laws. We cant bend them for your careless and take it easy nature which you exibit only in India, not in US where you are begging right now! But you didnt forget the following: i) boasting that you are from the family of so and so... ii) Trying create sympathy by making empty noises. iii) Comparing a story or history, that you gave visa to so and so... because he was a politician or whatever may be! Final word to you if you are reading this post sometime! Go and get lost to US and dont come back to India Mr! Atleast live as a good citizen in that country!... i know you would do it... because they will make sure you do it!

PL NOTE THAT THE SUFFER WILL ONLY UNDERSTAND WHATEEVER MAY THE CASE,THE HUMITARIUN CAUSE SHOULD APPLY FOR THE LADY AND 12YRS GIRL.THE OFFICER IS MOST PROBABLY FROM OTHER PART OF REGEION,SO COULD NOT UNDRESTAND THE SENTIMENT OF THE PASSANGER,
There should not be an excuse not to carry a valid visa. It is not the duty of the immigration authority to search their record and find out if somebody has got a valid visa rather it is the duty of the tourist to present at the counter. I wonder how did the airline allowed her to travel to that point. If somebody is from US, they were not gifted and they also need to follow the procedure.
I have gone through the entire message put on your board. I would like to say as follows:
1. First of all I advise all participants that they should use only decent language.
2. I definitely respect the work of immigration officials at Kolkata who performed their duty.
3. I surely condemn the arrangements made by the parents of the child who did not care about the proper documentation before boarding the flight.
Now my advises are as follows:
1. Immigration officials can allow temporary landing and called all the document to be verified at Embassy at USA originally or else they can call the same by any mode of communication.
2.Immigration officials has already penalised them by showing them that they are not carrying proper documentation.
3. Immigration official should not have done this sort of penalty by deporting them. They should have called any respectable standing person who is known to them from Kolkata for their security or identification.
4. Parent should ensure in future that they should not be casual in this type of matter when you are visiting a foreign country.

Mr. Rajesh, I also agree with your view, but if somebody has got the same problem in US Airport, do they allow to enter into their land ? If their is such rules it must be followed, but some leniency should have been shown by airport personnels in case of a child....

So dear... does US follow those advices if a India enters a US after "forgetting" some documentation?
Do they contact Indian embassy and verify bla bla...?
Why do you want India to follow that? First is will you forget a important document and try to enter US and call up the media like rediff there and make empty noises?

Mr. Daga What you say is fine in thought, but try implementing this in reality! Once they immigration does what u suggested, you will have plenty of parents becoming more relaxed and getting this kind of privelege! At least this particular case will make every one more cautious and double check their documents before they leave! Possibly, the authorities would have taken a lenient view, if the girl had travelled alone! I believe the system should run on a tight leash for smooth, uniform performance. No hard feelings, mr. Rajesh.

Nobody has time for such cases, humanity matters but immigration officials are already stressed. Besides, DOES A TERRORIST HAVE IT WRITTEN ON THEIR FOREHEAD?
