People like chautala, devilal, mulayam singh, Mayawati, etc.... etc... are all above the law...Dutt is an actor not a politician and it looks like a good example in the eyes of the public,...obviously what he did was wrong. The police always seem to catch bollywood stars to make examples but politicians always manage, some how to slip out?!

I agree with you. For one it is easy to pick on soft targets. Actors make for easy targets and results are highly visible to keep gullible people happy. I do think though some more punishment like maybe another year would have been more appropriate since what he did was unlawful but magnitude is a bit harsh. There are tons of such criminal and dangerous politicians in UP/Bihar but they hardly ever are convicted. In very rare cases if there is some really serious charge(few murders etc) then maybe. I would be happier if some of those politicians got the rap. Putting a person who would not have harmed anyone for such a long term is useless. Even a year more would have set an example.
while in court, to save his ass, he would obviously say that he kept the weapon to protect his family. the judge is not as naive as you to believe it. if you mess with law and deal with people like abu salem and dawood ibrahim, you go to jail. its as simple as that.

Unfortunately I guess there is nothing in India for self protection. If you are attacked by someone who has a gun say a dacoit and you posses an arm to defend, you attack the attacker you will be imprisoned just because you defended yourself and killed the "innocent" hahaha and you owned a gun.He initially put 18 months in jail what was that for?.Why did the law wait again to give another 6years.Where taken off for a nap or coffee or busy taking under the table.
this stupid populace is going around praising the justice system. I feel 6 yrs is way to harsh..afterall what harm did he do to anybody? He just got a weapon to defend his family in the riot atmosphere of '92. Rogues like Salman Khan are driving around running over people and shooting balck bucks. Such a sentence is for him.
Wow !! I am glad we have somebody who has the guts to take the side of the plain, unadulterated truth and the gumption to highlight the real analysis behind a long dragged case.
Media has an important responsibility as the fourth estate to take a hard stern look at the facts and be a mirror of morality and conscience to the society - in which any citized on this country and look and get a reflection of RIGHT vs WRONG
Its high time we debate the dissegregration of News & Entertainment. The amalgamation of these two is assuming near dangerous proportions.
Shenoy, I agree with you. Sanjay dutt is definitely not a role model. Anyone who thinks the sentence is harsh, should consider the suffering of the families of the ppl died in the blast. he definitely deserves to be in jail for what he did. if he had informed the police about the mobilization of weapons by abu salem and others, probably the blast wouldnt even have occured.

Please get your facts straight. What does Sanjay's possession of the weapon have to do with the blast victims. He has been cleared from having anything to do with the blast. The sentence of six years under the Arms Act is simply for the possession of the illegally acquired weapon, and not for any intent or actual use. Your message and tone suggests that his punishment should reflect the suffering borne by the blast victims, which would be unfair.
Almost every Indian has committed one sort of crime or another with the exception of probably a select few who refuse to pay or accept bribes. We are corrupt people and the system we grow up in has a lot of flaws that we need to rectify. Sanjay Dutts is a classic case of ignorance from a rich individual. The fact is that most Indians think that just being rich and famous will help them get their way with law. We cannot blame them because otherwise our system does work that way. If you want your passport you have to bribe the policeman even if you have given the right address. You have to bribe the RTO officer to get your drivers license. How many people have tried not giving bribes and got their work done? We have to increase awareness and revamp our current system.

Mr. Kode is not the best candidate for the job. He has already taken 14 years to deliver judgements and then pass the sentences.

Why do you wish ill for people who do not agree with your recommendation. Malice is not a desirable human quality
It is nice to realize that no one is above the law .. however, at times it is partial... e.g Salman Khan who had killed people by running them over is still free..if this crime was committed by a common man & not so called SUPERSTAR SALMAN KHAN ... would the verdict be same?

First of all, we should praise Mr. Kode, and we need a person like Mr.Kode in election commision. See he is also a common man, but he justified and succeeded in his judgement, never stepped back from the criminals warnings and threats, and he dong have any ego or not against to any one of this judgement, if he does have then he dont even allow sanjay dutt to attend foreign shootings.
The political system is completely corrupt! Billions of dollars are being spent on politicians salaries, housing, travel and entertainment... and Lallu is a minister in this parliament! Millions of dollars have gone missing from the government coffers and nobody was caught! Nobody has the guts to catch Lallu and all his party... Indira Gandhi was alledged to have spent millions of government funds on government and PM's residences' -Nobody investigated that! There was Sikh Genocide in Punjab in 1984 and millions of sikhs were killed but there were no investigations... nobody was jailed! Nobody was caught in the gujarat roits? Who is the Judicial system in india trying to teach a lesson to? The Police and all the might of India cannot catch Dawood and cannot catch thousands of Gabbars in the chambals and by jailing sanjay dutt will stop terrorism from india? This is a JOKE!
it was not usa, india would have set this terrorist sanjay free. there are hundreds of people in the criminal enteprise of bollywood that has links to the terrorists. the indian media calls theses thugs as "underworld" to differentiate it from terrorists, a tactic which won't work with usa. thus, it will be left to usa to clean up india against indian govt's wishes.

So, you think USA pressured India to declare him terrorist and get a jail term for him? This lesson in internation diplomacy was almost funny. BTW, a fewthings you should know: 1. He was not declared terrorist by any judge(so far). 2. He had nothing to do with riots and killings. On the other hand, his action of aquiring guns was effect of riots. 3. And no, before you jump there, Pakistan did not ask him to hide guns either.

you can get technical all you want. the fact remains a lot ocngressis are terror-friendly and dutt is only one of them. usa is not going to put up with terror-friendliness anywhere, specially in and around pakiland. since india is an irresponsible country, as you clealry demonstrate it with your inanitiies, usa has no choice but to bear down heavily, and be the chief of indians.
