OBCs/Dalits is inevitable, however I am hoping against hope that they think in terms of entire India and not just indulge in UC bashing as has been the norm till now. But the problems facing India is huge I doubt if even well intention guys can solve the problems staring us in the face. Already we are way behind in HDI. India is going to implode soon as jubilation of Dalits/OBC at capturing power will soon turn into frustration/anger as nothing changes much. After all without good quality jobs/strong domestic industry consumption what is the use of attaining power

SC declines to vacate stay on OBC quota
by jagannatha rao on Apr 23, 2007 08:02 PM  Permalink

I see the messages are biased and all of them take sides -for or againstand emotional. We have to look at the problem in an unbiased way.In my opinion,we can find a strategy fair and acceptable to all.
1.Fairly accurate statistics to collected caste-wise(This has come to stay)
2.Decide on what percentage to be open, based on merit.
3.Remaining percentage allot reservations proportionately to all categories-SC,ST,OBC and FC.
4. Exclude CREAMY layer in EACH category from the eligibility for reservation, who are actually fighting for this OBC quota now.
We have to remember that POOR people in EACH category require the real support and this has been agreed by all.

Yes, It is a slap on the cheek of mr. arjun khan (singh). It was necessary to stop congress from dividing the society on caste and creed basis. congress blames bjp for trying to divide the society on regional lines. If we believe this to be true, then also it may divide the society in 2-3 parts. Whereas the congress policy to divide the society on the basis of caste and creed would divide the society in infinite camps which would be disastrous.

How stupid, the langauge of your message is,Shows you are not of any depth.Do you believe in Indian Constitution,if atall you have faith therein, you shall have to keep faith in Supreme Court, which is last court of the land.Do you want that politicians should go on misusing other systems like parliament, and go on legislating for private political ends, and do you want that system like Judiciary should blindly follow them as yes man.whether their act fits within the constitutional parameters or not,is within the sole domain of the Apex Court.Do you have faith in democratic anarchy and can it be permitted.Apex Court is part of the very same constitutional system and it is under constitutional obligation to keep other systems within the bounds of their authority. It is the constitutional brain and intellect of the nation which has been working quite dedicatedly and patriotically. If this system will become adulterated with selfish political motives like all political parties, who will decide what is right and what is wrong. You deserve to be prosecuted for contempt of Supreme Court for using below standard language to its hon!ble Judges who are revered by all the nation.Equality forum or the Govt. of India must prosecute you for below standard language for the court.

Although your language appears offending, but hardstone, deserves this type of reply as you have given.Stupid Arjunsingh and UPA and so also all other politicians remaining blind to the passing of such an Act after 57 yrs.including NDA are to be deeply deplored, for it is clear, that for their "gandu" political ends nobody is ready to support or oppose what is right and what is wrong.Shame upon such type of skin saving politics, which has been exercised forgeting all cannons of righteousness.

hi hardstone...that is the very reason why i am against the quota ...becoz with quota people like you and your uncle come and occupy places of authotrity and instead of doing there job go around screwing women ......that itself shows why quota is not the right answer to the problem....we wont educated and responsible people to run the country and only those people who go by merit can do this .....but people like you would never understand because you dont even kno the meaning of the word "MERIT"......

Political bias is indeed amazing
by Milind on Apr 23, 2007 07:59 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I belong to that section of the society which has lost faith in the politicians irrespective of the party. However I do realize that if we dont exercise our right to vote, worse is yet to come.

It is amazing how bias affects a person's thinking.

If I am an ardent congress supporter, everything that they do is somehow justified. Whether it is minority appeasement, caste-based politics, Gandhi Dynaty. Everything has a reason.

If I am a BJP supporter, religion based politics seems ok.

If I am a CPIM supporter, I choose to ignore that gone is the time when mill workers were harassed by the industraliasts. Now worker unions ensure that workers work only during over-time.

How does this work? How does a person switch off and on reasoning selectively ? I can understand an uneducated person being asked to vote for the Hand (Congress) or the Saffron colour (BJP). How can we educated people allow generations of the Gandhi dynasty or Rabri Devi to be lawmakers ? What qualifications do they have ? Will we tolerate someone like them supervising us in our company ?

How come we educated people are led like sheep (to butcher) who dont know that they will soon be slaughtered ?

I think time has come to not vote for the party but for the person. All parties are made up of people. If we elect the right people, all parties will have the right people and which party comes to power really wont matter. For this logic to work, educated and professional people like us should start entering politics as independants. Only those should make entry who are already successful in their existing careers. That way, the only criteria would be Interest of the Nation. Not lust for power. I was hoping that when Dr.Manmohan Singh entered politics it was a begining. But alas a good apple turns rotten once kept in a basket full of rotten apples. Indeed this is a difficult proposition. Any suggestions ?

Comment on SC declining to vacate stay on OBC quota
by ritwik banerjee on Apr 23, 2007 07:56 PM  Permalink

Our political parties including the present ruling party Congress(who claims to carry out a key role in our freedom movement) have no intention to raise the educational standard in our country, but, their only job is to use the minority/backward community as vote bank. I am surprised to see that no political party welcomes the Supreme court order about the staying the OBC quota reservation. To hide the fact that the qualified students will get severly affected by the quota reservation, the govt cliams also to increase the number of seats. But, it should be remembered that the becuase of pay structure and some other reasons, the teacher-student ratio in most of the central universities are below the standard and the increase of no. of seats there will only intensify the problem. I am a student of Statistics and I feel that the profiling students based on their caste have a high misclassification probablity of classification, if a discriminant analysis is carried out. I conclude that govt and all political parties, in order to draw more and more votes, are ready to encourage corruption in education system, even to the extent of developing a caste-based educational system.
