Which was more shocking, his untimely death or his leaving India for good?. If he had just gone there for working sometime, and had planned to come back and make India better, many indians could have excused.. but not if he is a us citizen.

venkat, I am sorry for the prof. he is now no more, and I do not want to attach anything bad to him. I condole the death.
But an Indian born going to US and settling there is nothing to be proud of for people back home. We need them to contribute to upliftment of the society that helped them or provided them the opportunity to grow.

Oh yes!with the reservatins and other stuff going on in india....

I remember my classmate who completed degree two years later. With about 16to17 papers to be cleared at the time of the normal completion period this guy is a Lecturer at Anna University.I am sure he would have improved lot but he improved just because he had an opportunity (reservation) even after he was irregular to classes, bunking and in theaters when poor guys are there in class attending ....

BTB,it is not only the society which made anyone grow (except for the ones who used reservation quota). It is his own capability and force from inside which made him grow.I am sure more than 90% of people from india would have been in US /else where if they were given an opportunity.
In fact NRIS bring a lot of money to India.

The question is not about being an Indian or not. The question is about a scholar getting killed. Why do you guys get into Indian / Non-Indian / Hindu / Muslim / White / Black etc.? Is anyone's blood different from the other's? Does he not have a family? C'mon guys ... grow up ...

The aspect that these eminent academic guys used Indian system to grow and become better and finally showed their true colours by getting us citizenship..teaching at us universities.. though human race should not have borders, but having taken from one society you should give back something to it.. i can pardon sunita williams performing for us flag as she is more american than indian, not prof..as he studied here and moved out for money.. FATE is a great equalizer, now let Indian Americans live in fear there or move out here and use their knowledge to make India better...India is the best place to be.

I do condole the death of a prof. but the reaction to these headlines should be shun them. Lot of people get killed daily due to lot of things that within control, they do not get headlines, someone somewhere who did not want to be in his country died, that became headlines.. shame on rediff india!!..

Rethinking on US Universities
by ramesh ramesh vemuganti on Apr 17, 2007 02:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The ghastly and barbaric killing of Indian Professor Dr Loganathan is despicable. A teacher is a guide and a torchbearer of students which helps in the formation of a better society . With this incident , the society has lost a dedicated teacher and scholar who was contributing to its advancement in several dimentions. Alas , a Noble profession like Teaching , which lights up abd brightens this world with knowledge , has become a risky avocation.
ted in history , it only explains the deeprooted malaise hidden somewhere in the minds of the killers community. Major concerns will be raised in the minds and hearts of the parents in India whose children are pursuing studies in US varsities.
Undoutedly , as a result of these killings , the country which would be worst affected -- emotionally , socially and morally -- is India. This incident is not easy to get over for a long time to come , probably few decades. The need of the hour for USA is to go into the root cause of this dastardly and devilish act , get to know the facts and take stern measures for prevention of such horrors. Too much of transparency in dealings , openness and liberty for every individual is proving very costly for US.

We Indians will have to rethink now , before we send our children to American Universities . Bigger question is , which other US University , place or office is safe now ? The Superpower is dangerously vulnerable and precariously exposed to terrorosts , racists , protagonists and foreign nationals -- on all fronts.
This is the time when it should get its act together and offer safety , security and a comfortable haven for our students , researchers , visiting and permanent faculty , scientists , professionals and businessmen.

It also calls for soulsearching on the part of Indians residing in US.

Its pity to see the gun culture in temple of learning. Its seems the student and youth of today are impatient lot. This type of incident may happen in Indian university and colleges even.where the goons are entered in the name of student. They show their ugly faces at the time of reservation and other political issuses and were abetted by media and politicians. My heart felt condolences to bereaved families.
