Virgina Tech Shootings

I was shocked as anyone else by this senseless killing. But, looking beyond the mental state of this kid, I would like to think back to my days as an undergraduate student at an elite US University. As a kid of Indian Origin, don't tell me that none of you felt the ignorance of your fellow students who as exactly stated by the killer didn't seem to get enough of their Mercedes, the Trust Fund, the expensive booze, the women they chased etc. Their ignorance ooozed out of their minds - and we are talking about the brightest the US had to offer? Tell me you guys from India who were mostly graduate students in these universities didn't even feel it? Or were you just glad to get out of India? Why doesn't anyone even look at this angle?

My deepest condolences to the family of prof. Lokanathan. God always takes away good people sooner for his own better agenda. May his soul rest in peace, and may God give the family especially his wife and his parents enough strength to withstand this great loss.

Logu My Friend & Classmate
by Mahalingam Ramasamy on Apr 18, 2007 02:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dr.G.V. Loganathan was my PUC batch-mate (1970-71) in St. Josheph's College, Trichy as well as BE batch-mate (1971-76) in PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. We stayed in the same college hostels.

He was a very good chess player and a nice person to move with. He went on to do M. Tech as well as Doctorate at Kanpur IIT. I lost contact after he went to USA.

This a cruel-some murder. All our batch mates are grief stricken. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family members.

N,R. Mahalingam

Indian professor killed

Please will Rediff get facts straight and update reports?
The shooter was a South Korean student of English who went beserk after searching for his girlfriend who left him or so reports say.

On what grounds does the moderator and who is he/she to disable reporting abuse from some very irrelevant and ridiculous comments?
This is absolutely unheard of. Abuse may be reported but must be evaluated by someone with criteria. Your moderator would be better off cancelling all those biased comments that don't even consider the facts of the article concerned and end up pitting Hindus against Muslims.

This has become a paranoic state of mind that shows how unable we are to evaluate facts that have NOTHING to do with the issue of Hindu vs Muslims. The editor/publisher should bring back the discussion into the relevant framework if any positive result is to be obtained.
