Democracy is rule of majority If majority are 10th graders - THEY RULE!! Sad but true. Having said that, democracy is the ONLY system that can run India inspite of its flaws.

It is shocking to note to the decay of UP. Last few years it has been fiercely competing with Bihar to be the worst governed state in India.
In a democracy we cannot really blame the politicians entirely. Politicians as a class are basically crooked, unethical and shameless. That holds good for any country in the world. It is the duty of the people to carefully select the best from the rotten bunch and subsequently keep them under control.
All the states of India follow the same constitution, have the same kind of politicians. Then what does lead to the glaring differences in quality of governance between different states? In the same India we have Bihar and Maharashtra, UP and Tamil Nadu.
I think it is time that we started analyzing the crisis of governance from a sociologist's point of view.

My rule for voting at an election is simple - always vote against the incumbent candidate!
This education boogie is a clear conspiracy against SC/ST/OBC/Muslims to keep them out of election process, especially poor OBCs. The need of the hour is representation and not some polished brahminical education. What education did Phoolan Devi or Rabri Devi had? Didn't they bought glory to Indian democracy and made it outshine even Bush's democracy?

Yeah. Very true!
It is like allowing people to drive without driving license. But then in a democracy majority rules, always. So if most of the electorates vote in favor of a rapid progress to pre-historic age, what can we - a handful of sensible persons - do? Precious little, I must say.

You OBC guy look at your standard of knowledge.Rabri Devi outshines Bush's Democracy? I think today is friday and you are also going to participate in Great Indian Laughter Challenge-II. Am I right? Jao Bacche ghar me dudh piyo. Bare hona to duscussion board par aana.
Large percentages of India is uneducated. Why do you expect that people who vote for candidates place any importance on their education, when they themselves are uneducated? They are a reflection of the electorate, in more ways than one. They are as corrupt as the average man on the street. (How many people would rather get a traffic ticket for a broken tail light than bribe the cop Rs 100?). They are as educated as the average man on the street.
Look at the leader of the free world to know how effective the electorate is in selecting the most intelligent candidate :D. Democracy as such elects the person who fits certain requirements within the sytem. Level of education is almost never one of them. It helps, but it isnt necessary.

You are right but to a certain extent. In my view It is our politicians who dictate the terms and conditions for their survival in Politics.Whether it is education or criminalisation of politics. They want criminals (remember the Vajpayees regime when a bill was passed within 48 hours against the election commission)for their support and survival, they dont want the betterment of this country. Because they dont have any pride for their country. In my view Only MILITARY RULE is fit for this country. Because, Here in India People only understand the language of DANDA.
so mere education is no criteria. The most important criteria should be political acumen, responsibility and accountability. If there is means to assess this we could get a better system. Past records may be something, so people have to prove their merit before the are candidates. Most important of all is educating the common people. If they can make a studied choice, perhaps bad candidature can be reduced.

Why? A peons job require minimum educational qualification. And they rule this country or state as a minister, then why not there? It is not common people who chose them but they chose themselves on their own. This is the reason they dont have any concern about the people of this country and country itself.
