Next President
by systems technologies on Apr 09, 2007 12:20 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

One must appreciate the high integrity and the concern for the national interests of Shri Narayan Murthy. However, one must also understand that he is / was chief of a company having turnover of around 10,000 Cr. which is not a very big even by Indian standards. The Infosys picture looks big because of its rate of growth and its share prices at stock market.

I feel that the better choice would be Dr. R A Mashelkar, the former DG of CSIR. He has all the qualities of Shri Murthy, in addition, he knows very well the power structures and politics played in the international sphere. As regards to the understanding of technology and motivating the youth, he is no less than Shri Murthy. Dr Mashelkar will be to guide the government in the various issues in international competition and politics.

Mr. Kalam is very respectable person and he created a very different image of the president than the earlier political image. However, his passing reactions like those at Bangalore need not be viewed as his own views. And further, in a democracy, people can have some other views even with due respect to Mr. Kalam.

Murthy may be a little better, But even he is not a 'Sheshan'

Kalam was useless as President.
Remember the Office of Profit Bill he signed mutely. One of the Biggest Shame of Indian Parliament. The power hungey politicians of Congress and Left ganged up, they were not ready to forego their chairs of power and money. They shed all ideolagical pretence and sent the bill a second time to Mr. Kalam and he signed !! Sonia Gandhi shamelessly took her office of profits after resigning and again getting reelcted as MP!!!

But Murthy could be different, but even he is not a 'Sheshan'

Shame is not Kalam. Shame are the politicians who humiliate such great people. Need to comment, please do but first go through his life, achievements and simplicity.

Yes, these people are not fit to be presidents because they lack the skill of manipulation which is required to counter current breed of politicians.

Hi Mr.Menon..
On what parameters do you ju8dge hin to be useless..given the fact that as a President of this country he has limited powers..Don't you feel that It is a Constitutional problem and his personal problem..Look at him as an individual and the glory he has brought to the Rubber-stamp post he holds..Arguably he is the best President India ever had and I am dead sure it would be very difficult to find a replacemwnt..no matter you appint Murthy or Seshan..or for that matter any Tom Dick and Harry..
So you first place your arguement how Murthy could make a difference..
I wonder if some people can stop cribbing evn if they get the best..open your eyes wide and realize what you have..
Bye
Satish

Narayanmurthy as president
by Amit Chaturvedi on Apr 09, 2007 12:19 PM  Permalink

There is no doubt on the skills or candidature of Mr Narayanmurthy. Indian politics is not as mature as him. Example: Mr Kalam, no second candidature despite his persona, humbleness, polity, maturity, competence, vision.

There is no need to humiliate people like Kalam, Narayanmurthy.

A woman should be President of India.
by Rupa Mehta on Apr 09, 2007 12:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I will prefer if Sudha Murthy becomes the first woman president of India. She is very humble like our present president. She is both, IT person, writer, a great social worker relating to real people of real India. Respect the woman talent of India, a quiet, hard working contributing to Indian economy and Sanskar to home.

If it is to be a female, how about Renuka Chowdhury? She cannot be bulldozed into sign on the dotted line. That will make a difference.

Nice Gentleman, but misfit here
by priyesh tiwari on Apr 09, 2007 12:17 PM  Permalink

Mr Murthy is a man of high principles, but the President of India is a post that requires a man of high stature, a man who can fight these shameless politicians, in spite of the fact that he has no executive powers to exercise. Mr Murthy has nurtured Infosys at a time when the business environment in this nation was very conducive for them. But, a President's job is exactly opposite to that. As I have already said, the President has to act as the guardian of Indian democracy, with no executive powers. So, there is a huge gap in the work profile of these two posts. I feel he is a very gentle person, but not fit for this job.
