Wrong title !
by Superman aka who last crashed into a tree on Apr 06, 2007 05:45 PM  Permalink

The fastest thing on wheel goes to the Jet-Propelled cars built by Shell, another one by some well funded techie geeks here in the US.. which have already crossed the sound barrier (abt 1100 km /hr).

Rediff folks, why don't you ever.. ever do some research before you make your news articles.

Areyaar! Look at that train..just 2 compartments.

In indian trains there are 50 compartments...carrying 10,000 people, their buffalos and cows etc...

Imagine for that geometry 10,000 humans are squeezed...the entire weight of the train to be pulled is about 5000 times more than this french train but still indian trains run at 80 kmh.

Technically from above, it proves indian trains run at 80 * 5000 = 4,00,000 kmh

No western country can beat indian record!

After going through the site I felt very sorry for India. We are still in the Stone Age. It will take a few decades for India to catch up.

That is great!

It is a big technological achievement. To make a double-decker train run on 4'8" track is very challenging. In India we have single-decker trains which run on 5'6" tracks. Even with those two technological advantages we have not been able to cross 160 KM/H.

Carrying human beings at 580 kmph on the ground !
by raghu bear on Apr 04, 2007 10:59 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Yesterday, a french train experimented travelling
at 580 kmph on the ground ! I would have applauded
it as a great scientific acheivement, if it was for a
freight train, but to carry human beings at such an
high speed ?

Human beings are not goods that can be carried around
at such high speeds. They have a complex circuitry
which is a great wonder.

Has anyone analyzed the effect of human body being
transported at such a high speed ? What about the
effect on brain, heart, nerves and other complex
parts ?

Regular flying by airplane itself takes a toll on
the body. Ground travel at such high speeds is
even more dangerous. Can someone do a bit of
research and find out if ground travel at such
speeds is safe ?

That should not cause any problem, provided acceleration and braking cycles are moderate. All such high speed trains have closed windows by default. So you do not come in touch with outside air while traveling. Once the acceleration cycle is over and the train reaches a steady speed your body will also travel at the same speed. Due to inertia your body will continue to travel at the same speed, with little marginal force required to counterbalance the friction, wind drag etc.

Acceleration and braking cycles can be easily controlled by the driver. The source of worry is turning. It has been found experimentally that tight turning at high speed leads to a feeling of weightlessness, which in turn leads to nausea in sensitive passengers. The feeling is almost similar to what you feel when the aircraft you are traveling in hits an air pocket and the aircraft suddenly gains or loses altitude.

To avoid that all high speed tracks need to be built with longer turning radius. Moreover there are some other technologies to avoid the discomfiture during turns. One such is micro-processor controlled and hydraulically actuated tilting of carriages during turning cycles.

Even if the train travel 575 kmph, the human beings are almost stable with respect to train. If it is along road it may cause some effect. Here i think no need to bother

This shows how dumb you are !!!

#1 One Ground - Land Speed record racers who cross 1000 Kmph

#2 In Air - Concorde which used to travel at Mach 2 plus!! (civil project, leave about X planes with Mach 6 or more!)

#3 In Space - Space Shuttle guys who travel at 18,000 Kmph!!!

What you say now about humans traveling at such extra-ordinary speeds? 580 Kmph is peanuts for human potential!!!

SPEED OF TRAIN IN INDIA

Indian trains are pathetic. They run at 70-90 kmph. Can you compare ? It takes 28 hours for the SUPERFAST COROMONDEL to cover Chennai to Howrah !!! 70 kmph and its a SUPERFAST.LOL !

Do you know what is the criteria for designating a train as "Superfast"? If the average travel speed (total distance / total time) is more than or equal to 55 km/h. Railways collect "Superfast" charge also for such high-speed trains!

Our "ultrafast" Rajdhani Express trains clock an average of about 80-85 km/h.

Apply little stress on your Chicken brain - answer lies in your post!! Key is Design Speeds!! We don't have such design speeds.

To implement that we need to pump more than $100 billion (4,50,000 crores) for our tens of thousands of rail track!!

Why rail? Even on Roads, we don't have such design speeds. Safe design speeds on our Roads won't be more than 100 Kmph compared to World's best roads (Autobahns in Germany)has 200 Kmph!!!

Yeah. That is typical Indian. We never do anything with perfection. We always forget some crucial things and that spoils the entire endeavor.

Coming back to Shatabdi Express, those trains are designed to travel at a speed of 160 km/h. But we forgot, in typical Indian style, one very important thing. High speed trains also require tracks capable of sustaining that speed. Only few kilometers of railway tracks in India can support 160 km/h.

By the way the Shatabdi Express story goes back to the Rajiv era. He took the initiative to introduce that train. That time both the engines and the compartments were imported. Now we make both in India. That is only achievement in last two decades. Quality of tracks remain same, more or less.

dude, if you go more than that speed in Indian tracks, the efficiency of tracks will show up,

the tracks will start to fly, ur kids will be playing with it...
