look for quality education
by Kiran on Sep 28, 2006 09:38 PM  Permalink

I agree that English has to be the medium of education, but the primary education must be taught in their mother tounge. I don't know why people are opposing just in Karnataka... why not in Tamil nadu? why not in other parts of India... closedown all Hindi, bengali, marati,..... schools and start teaching only in English!! One shouldn't forget that we are not slaves for english countries, many do work for India. There are job oppurtunities in German / Japanese also, so why not send your kids to those schools?? People who wants to progress to there dreams will definetly learn those skills which are open to all!!!

I studied in English medium school but I repent doing so... bcoz children's primary eduction should be taught in there mother tongue which is easier and good to learn. Then move towards English... here nobody stops you from learning english.... and make good progress to gain your dream IT/BT jobs.
I think all these language mess happens because of outside people who don't want to learn the local language. Instead of just complaining the language here lets concentrate on quality education which can make a significant progress to all.

Punish Those Who Have Broken Law
by Rudresh on Sep 28, 2006 09:38 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi: Law must take its own course. Schools have given written notery to govt and courte and have violated the policy and cheated public by collecting huge donations and utilizing all govt facilities. They must be thought a lesson. They must respect the law. Thatz it. There should not be further argument. I am just wondering whey public here are supporting these law-breakers and cheaters.

Karnatake is formed on linguastic basis for Kannada people. Kannada is the language of this land and it must be respected at any cost. It may be IT city now, but it is Kannada land from 1000s of years. Those who do not like it must not come here and stay at thier own state.

Outsiders want our Cauvery water, they want our weather, they want our land, but do not want our language and culture. If they go to TN, they do not get a drop of water if they do not speak Tamil. These buggers are just taking advantage of our politness. These outsiders have spoiled Bangalore and our culture.

We hate outsiders; they are stealing our jobs, they are the cuase of traffic jams and high cost of living.

If u want to stay in K'tak, first learn Kannada; otherwise do not come here and get lost.

English
by M.S.P.Senthikumar on Sep 28, 2006 09:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Gone are the days when we wanted Hindi and our mother tongue; thre is no need for these languages now. English is the only language which will suffice to exist in the present world controlled by computers.
Everyone has posted his message in English. Why did he not post it in which ever language he gave preference. Practise what you preach first.English has to be learnt and is enough to take you all over for business, pleasure and last not the least and most important is for a living.

What u said is right. u r not fit in karnataka as well as in India. U did well till tenth because u did it in ur mother language. once u switch to other media(engilish) u found( and ur friends) difficulty. This is because of English. U can not blame Kannada for this. U could have suggest other way that teach English as one subject from the primary levell but not as medium to teach other subjects.
For your kind information i also from rural Karnataka and upto 10th my medium was kannada. I did Engineering without tutions or donations. and i am doing well now.
Do not Kill culture just for the sake of personel interest.
Try to understand ur mother first(Unfortunately).

Should kids learn English?
by Hemantkumar on Sep 28, 2006 08:44 PM  Permalink

I am from a rural village in Karnataka where there are no English medium schools. I started in Kannada Medium upto 10th std and then when I joined College (PUC Science), it was very much difficult for us to understand the words. Since, we had a very good teacher in High School, we could manage. But most of my friends failed and then changed to Arts though they had an intention to study Science. You can understand how language changes the life. Now I am in Ireland and I regret not studying in english. If this happens niether they can get jobs in India because of reservation nor out side India. Karnataka is the worst hit state in India by the politicians because of cool kannada people. They make rules for money. I am sure the CM wants money. If given more money, the schools will reopen. Who is he to say not to study English? They are all Goondas. The Law is also politicised in India and supports such things. Please, please media especially rediff, help us, help india and my brothers & sisters to servive.

It is well settled by educationist world wide that a

child should be taught upto a certain level of schooling in his/her mother tongue. Mahatma Gandhi also in his writings has recommended the same.

However in the presend scenario it seems that we have lost our focus on creative knowledge or earning potentials of our wards

The decision can not be just criticised on the basis of not learning english which any how to be learned easily at the later stage.

is rediff asking the right question?
by madhu on Sep 28, 2006 08:25 PM  Permalink

i think rediff is not asking the right question with regard to this issue. the actual matter is the cheating and illegal activities of these schools which are claiming the benefits of kannada teaching institutions and not teaching kannada. it is appropriate that cheaters should be punished.isn't it wrong on part of rediff to twist the whole matter

Making Kannada compulsory, banning English
by R. J. Mankad on Sep 28, 2006 08:21 PM  Permalink

First ask the politicians who are clamouring for Kannada to declare details of where their children and grandchildren are/were educated.

Next, teach English as a language from an early stage in schools. English is THE business language. Learn from Gujarat, where elimination of English has eliminated Gujaratis from large part of job and business opportunities.
