What we did to this country in these 60 years
by meena on Sep 28, 2006 09:03 AM  Permalink

In democratic country all these problems are common.
democracy constitutes of people(take out politicians, police,lawyers...etc etc) just as a common man its time for one to think personally what he/she is doing for this country or state or taluk or family(in the least case).
(One can't build the great city ROME over night ...)
Ours is the highly populated country and more over its devoloping country. So taking one decision on anything for any ruling party or ex-ruling party is very difficult. The mentioned problems are not only in india (to be frank) but also in every country(in already devolped countries also).
Coming to national song vande mataram ...many muslim schools sang the song and there were cases where hindu majority schools did not even know how to sing the song.
its time for us to advertise ourselves for every good deed we did, i suppose, so that the world can feel the other side of India too.

We All Agree
by Prateek Shukla on Sep 28, 2006 08:21 AM  Permalink

Looks like we all agree on this article atleast.
We agree when it comes to take the bribe,do any sort of corruption, and definitely we agree in parliament also thats why we have lots of amendments in the constitution.
In elections also we agree thats why whether it is Congress or it is BJP we elect corrupt person and give him the on of the top positions in the country just on the basis of region, caste or religion.
We are united in cricket matches,in movies like Gadar or Border.
Why?...because we want our nation to flourish and develop but everytime this hope is shattered by petty politics and innocent and uneducated are targetted who don't understand what corruption means and they don't even know what actually election is?
Educate them and problem consider our problem solved.
Jai Hind.

The state of our nation
by Ravikant on Sep 26, 2006 05:33 PM  Permalink

Mr Lavkare's article follows the speech of Mr Pranab Mukerjee. Is it a coincidence that Mr Pranab, a much older man sees a glowing future for India while, Mr Lavakare sees our country in a totally different light.
There is a lot that is not right with our country today.Although, we claim to be a nation but somewhere along the way we seem to relegate the entire concept of nationhood to the dustbin, in our day to day labours.
All our mainstream parties are intererstd in token nationalism and influencing gullible voters. In the din that passes for national conciousness governance
is getting the go-by.
One tends to feel a sense of let down by an uncaring government that does not go beyond platitudes.Democracy seems to have degenerated to the Mobocracy.
The loss of faith in our nation to deliver is getting visible by the day. A day may not be far when the youth would lose complete faith and waste their energy in escapist activities and mindless violence. Anarchy would then become supreme.

Well
Its not like that. Each and every Indians have love for India. This love, they will realize when they are out of India. Being in India, we don't even have time to smile at the neighbors. Tensions and busy life have kept all the people busy. But look on the bright side... There are festivals in which people come together and celebrate. We come together on Independence and Republic day and sing praises for the country. So, we shouldn't be ashamed of who we are. Instead we should be proud that we are an Indian. Because India is the largest democracy in the world. There is no other country which has over 3000 dialects and languages, over 70 different religions. Accepted that there is still inequality amongst cast creed and religion. But not all the countries are perfect. Use perfect banana padta hai.

Thought Provoking Article
by Ajith on Sep 26, 2006 12:35 PM  Permalink

This is what is happening in Our so called Secular and Democratic Nation. Every one knows that what has happened in the past and what is happening now is not good. We got freedom from Britishers but again in the clunches of these uncivilized and corrupted polititians. Wake up call is given to them many a times, but all in vain. Now somthing wierd should happen, somthing that would be practically thought to be impossible, but then we have to go for it.
Otherwise Next Generation is gonna ask us, what kinda of nation have you given in our hands.
But things would change and it has to, we have to change it.

Well Said!
by loki on Sep 26, 2006 11:54 AM  Permalink

Thanks for the splendid article!

Indeed we have come to a state where each and every person is driven by his own interests and things like nationalism are used only if they serve our purposes! This is in stark contrasts to the countries in Europe where different countries have combined to make a single instiution (EU)!
There is no point in blaming politicians alone for the mess. It's we, the people, who are not doing anything for the situation and simple living our lives! We give chance to politicians to come and rule over us while looking at the situation being dumb!

Democrasy means disagreement
by Raj on Sep 26, 2006 10:29 AM  Permalink

Which democracy in the world has the distinction that there was unanimous agreement on an issue? Differing voices can't be an indication of lost national cause. There are people who see the bad signs as detailed in this column and regret it. But there are others who see the great achievements and get motivated about it. We have to be happy that today a fisherman's son can become a president of India. A refugee can become a prime minister of the country. Today we have to feel proud that there are opportunities to succeed and there are people and means to help. I am not of course saying that bad things as detailed in the column needs to be ignored. Every generation has its battles. Our forefathers fought for freedom. Today we have to fight to make sure that their dreams are not dead. Such fights only help people to discover themselves just like a cause like national freedom helped Gandhiji to discover himself. It is foolish not to recognize the fights that are being won by brave people who are working hard to make those dreams of our forefathers true some day.
