Have these steel memebes been tested to verify whether their capacity not been compromised by the blast and collapse. What if these members have already been stressed past their loading capacity - wouldn't the buildings which were built with these compromised scraps, collpse also??? Is it just me - isn't anyone bothered about the use of such scraps in building construction?

Indians and in particular South Indians can build houses even with American shit! Except that whatever they build does not have the basic liberal values that American society is build upon.

Rebirth from Destruction
by AP on Sep 14, 2006 11:10 PM  Permalink

Such is the cycle of destruction and rebirth.
From the rubble, ashes and destruction arose new memorials.

It would be appropriate if a plaque or a monument was placed at these new buildings commemorating their significance.

And it is disheartening to hear that the quality of a 35 year old, crumpled and destroyed mass of American steel is superior to a brand new Indian counterpart. Indian industrialists should be ashamed of this

Recent health hazard findings at ground zero, post 9/11
by srinivas on Sep 14, 2006 07:14 PM  Permalink

One of the recent news programs during the 9/11 anniversary here in US has been about the negligence of the city officials and the EPA in properly assessing the health hazard around the ground zero site, following the collapse of the towers. Infact, a number of people involved in the clean up activity at the site have been affected, including the then deputy mayor of NY city. At least 2 deaths are believed to be of direct consequence of the health hazard at the site, and a number of other people are suffereing from a variety of respiratory illnesses, from brochitis to cancer. Most of these findings are recent, in the last year or so. Though I am not sure if the debris material had been tested recently, but I can't help but wonder what the findings would be if we did the same.
