The Chikunguniya caught me in september when I visited my native place in rajasthan..I got a high temperature and on the very next day I was not able to move my hand and feet. Even for the next 5 days it was very difficult to stand ..then I camt to knw that ir makes our blood into water..thts why we feel so much pains and weekness...In our town each family was affected with this literally painful diseases.. and also you never believe it that due to this some doctors had closed their clinic cause of fear that they might caught by this ...
This is the fact and our health minister told that nobody is killed by this chikunguniya acroos the country..I pray to GOD that pls let affect by this Chikunguniya to our honourable caretaker health minister.

Chikungunya
by Prof. K. Mohan Pai on Oct 23, 2006 09:51 PM  Permalink

Nature has given the power of mutation even to Chikungunya virus. Therfore, the present epidemic is behaving entirely different from the past. Viruses are known to invade Brain tisue much more faster, effectively and deadly. That is why there are cases of 'Encephalitis' due to Chikungunya virus. This has killed many patients. Therefore it is foolish to stick to the old WHO declaration that there are no fatalities due to Chikungunya. In La Union there are Post Mortem eviedence of this. Governments in India should take up the task of cleansing the Mosquito breeding grounds on a war footing not just give Press statements.

by douglas kirpa raja on Oct 14, 2006 03:07 PM  Permalink

I myself had the experience of chikungunya.there are lots of pain in the joints . but it is not as fatal as dengue.it is serious when it affects the elderly person or little childrens.the government should make all efforts to erase these disease from the society.

Guys do not pounce on the writer, journalist most of the times have little knowledge on all matters, they hardly have depth (cant generalize though) ... The best thing is more information has come out from the reactions ..Taking Cloroquin Phosphate relieves joint pain..well yes its also prescribed for arthritis. Zinc and Vitamin C are immune boosters so they are tonics not treatment I guess.

But my suggestion is learn as much as you can also can take Vitamin C tabs or Zinc caps.(Becozinc in India is a good combination) .. this is precaution..

If there is any symptom keep the knowledge aside and go to a good General Practitioner or Physician they will know the best.

know the facts first!

Dear Mr George,

I must say you are not well informed. Do you have any idea where Reunion island is on the world map? Do you know it is a part of France and that France is a developed country?

Who told you that there were 200 deaths on this island related to this disease. Over a lakh people are affected by this disease in the last one year but there were no deaths. Check the facts first.

Rediff...you are a news portal...and don't you have social responsibility to check the facts before you create panic by publishing chikungunya is fatal?

IMA hasn't declared the deaths in Kerala are due to chikungunya. And chikungunya is not a mortal disease ...atleast for now.

Please be responsible for God's sake.

Mr Antar
You are not well informed either.
Reunion Island is a French colony in the Southern Indian Ocean near Mauritius.
