Chikungunya
by Prof. K. Mohan Pai on Oct 23, 2006 09:51 PM

Nature has given the power of mutation even to Chikungunya virus. Therfore, the present epidemic is behaving entirely different from the past. Viruses are known to invade Brain tisue much more faster, effectively and deadly. That is why there are cases of 'Encephalitis' due to Chikungunya virus. This has killed many patients. Therefore it is foolish to stick to the old WHO declaration that there are no fatalities due to Chikungunya. In La Union there are Post Mortem eviedence of this. Governments in India should take up the task of cleansing the Mosquito breeding grounds on a war footing not just give Press statements.
