India, China partners not rivals
by Dr. G.S.Shankar on Nov 29, 2006 11:36 AM  Permalink

It is heartening to see India and China going in right direction along with Russia, if it happens, they cannot be ignored in the world politics. Indo-china trade is leaping forward too. But there are few foreign policy obstacles which cannot be ignored. China still looks India internationally with Pakistan's eye and it never acknowledges India's ambitions of global power apart from SAARC region and China keeps on building nuclear reactors in Pakistan. I do not think North Korean transferred missile technology is not without China's knowledge. China also frequently plays adverserlial role in countering any perceived growth of India's influence globally. Will China change to accomodate growing India's influence globally or perceives as a regional bully? Will it stop equating India with Pakistan and can perceive India as an international power ? I think India should have some strategic foreign policy objectives, instead of saying the relationship is irreversible. China wants to contain unipolar world. It may be tempting for India but caution is needed. China also has a history of helping rogue states like Libya and Iran in nuclear issue.

India China relations
by A.B.Sen on Nov 22, 2006 11:39 AM  Permalink

The India as a nation cannot afford to ignore the friendship of China as both have a copmmon past of colonial subjugation and both attained freedom almost simaltenously. While China progressed its economy with a levelled development of all strata of the society, Indian development has not parcolated to the down trodden in the country. India spends more on defence out of imaginary fear from a country which is building its economy restricting its defence expenditure. An improved relation with China would help India to reduce its defence expenditure and it may gain from trade relation with China more than it gains from the capitalist countries.

This might feel like a tired old right wing stance, but the keyword is; we must not trust China with anything.

Donot believe the slogans
by Sunil Kumar Batchu on Nov 21, 2006 08:51 PM  Permalink

Chinese are rightly called googlies... Never believe these slogans by the Chinese. They dont have any respect to the non-violence. Otherwise they would have stopped attrocities on Tibetans. And it is known fact that Strength(physical) respects another strength.. not the weak. It is obvious we are weak when compared to china. Let us build the strngth first before carried away by these slogans by chinese.

India, China partners, not rivals
by labrea on Nov 21, 2006 08:23 PM  Permalink

Yeah, like the fox and the hare are partners. What crap! All nice sound-bytes for naieve gullible twits, but the day China recognizes India as a 'partner' would be the day the world ceases to exit. China views India not as a mere rival, but more as an adversary to be hemmed-in and check-mated at every possible turn. Yes, it's good to have cordial relations, but throwing caution to the wind and falling for all this baloney would be the height of stupidity.

Hu's visit to India
by O. N. GOYAL on Nov 21, 2006 07:30 PM  Permalink

India and China could initiate an agenda to optimize and minimize use of energy; e.g. Oil, Gas, Coal, Wood; thereby help control global warming without bothering about American initiation as this will help them the most. This initiative can have solitary effect on US. Global warming will harm them the most for the reasons:
1. Growing at a very high rate means their energy consumtion will keep growing rapidly. This means they shall sometime become greatest consumer of energy; which means they shall become major contributor to Global warming.
2. Global warming will affect them more than US being warmer countries.
3. Higher consumption means higher prices of Oil, Gas and Coal as we have seen recently and directly affect our economies. This will shorten the period of availabilty of energy inputs to us as well as to the world.
4. Being great civilisations and being most populus it is our major duty to the world at large. By the way we could be most populus only because nature had blassed us with resources and our forefathers made minimum and best use of resources by being nature friendly. So let us follow their footsteps with ingenuity with out affecting our growth.

India-China are partners,not rivals- Hu.
by B.RAVI CHANDRA on Nov 21, 2006 06:53 PM  Permalink

It is with great clarity of thought, and lots of wisdom, the Chinese Leader Mr.Hu, said that we are partners in progress, not rivals.

We should take this forward, and show to the world we need not compete with China, but complement our work together in business & industry, computerisation,
trade and other issues.

Even in fighting relegion based terrorism, the two
countries can work together to exterminate the menace
and stampout such forces swiftly.

China is a great country, and we must have extensive cooperation at levels working together, to achieve better & faster results in plan implementation.
Our leaders must be careful, in their statements, &
avoid conroversial, self-serving, stupid statements
(Like the one made by George Fernandes some time ago)
but appreciate the goodwill gesture of the Chinese leader.
