Border dispute with China
by Chandrasekar on Nov 18, 2006 06:00 AM  Permalink

We have to react very cautiously and intelligently.
China is a psuedo Communist Country. It wants to improve it's image in the world by inviting all the Multi Nationals and achieving fairly a good result. But this is as of now. We don't know about the future. In that case, if we have good relations with US & Russia, we can get our voice listenable. At that time we should question about the Chinese hungry for the land. They want Taiwan, Tibet, Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh etc.
If India over reacts now there is no use except straining relations with China. There is no way to compare India and China as they are far superior in everything, including Military Force and Intelligence.
So, our government should act smart and try to get more support before opening the voice.

China plays hard ball
by Abhik RayChaudhury on Nov 18, 2006 12:09 AM  Permalink

I read at least two well known western analysts who maintain that China will 'NOT' solve the border issue anytime in near or distant future, as it will use its conventional superiority at the border to counter possible superiority of the Indian navy in the indian ocean area (through which most of China's oil/energy is transported). This is also the reason why they are concerned about the strategic indo-us tie up in the defence/technology areas. A technologically upgraded indian navy can really make indian ocean into india's ocean.
So, as Brahma Chellany has suggested, India should gently remind China about its recognition of Tibet as an 'AUTONOMOUS' region within China and not a part of it. To deal with the chinese we should play hardball too. Indians do not lack expertise in subtleties either.

Losing Arunachal Pradesh???
by Debroop Sarkar on Nov 17, 2006 11:13 PM  Permalink

As a nation we are not aggressive as we should be in enforcing our policies. For instance, we do not claim mansarovar or even parts of kashmir which once were part of our couuntry. Worse, the LOC is way inside our own territory, so much that the map of india has changed.
On the other hand, Israel being aggressive keeps all the terrorist states at bay. Unless we tend to develop an aggresive attitude, we probably shall see arunachal pradesh become a part of china sooner or later.

Be wary of China
by Sanjay on Nov 17, 2006 10:30 PM  Permalink

If we believe in the adage "history repeats itself", then we should be wary of the Chinese. Jawahal Lal Nehru after declaring friendship with the Chinese was shocked when the Chinese attacked India in 1962.
So Gobvernment Of India better watch out.

china's claim on arunachal
by shekhar on Nov 17, 2006 10:25 PM  Permalink

Few questions:

is the attitude of Chinese towards India has changed over the years or china is simply keeping quite and waiting for the right time to hit back as they did in 62.

shell we live in hope that some fine day we'll not be Indians any more and hence forth 'll be Chinese.

is there any correlation?

we are celebrating f'ship year with china in 2006 as we did prior to 1962.

1962 they built roads all along the Himalayan border and now there is Tibet is connected with rail.

they are still pampering Pakiâs against China...

and then also all our markets are full of Chinese goods and we feel proud to buy n eat Chinese..

Just think once where we have gone wrong, since there is still time to make up for the mistakes.
