China plays hard ball
by Abhik RayChaudhury on Nov 18, 2006 12:09 AM

I read at least two well known western analysts who maintain that China will 'NOT' solve the border issue anytime in near or distant future, as it will use its conventional superiority at the border to counter possible superiority of the Indian navy in the indian ocean area (through which most of China's oil/energy is transported). This is also the reason why they are concerned about the strategic indo-us tie up in the defence/technology areas. A technologically upgraded indian navy can really make indian ocean into india's ocean.
So, as Brahma Chellany has suggested, India should gently remind China about its recognition of Tibet as an 'AUTONOMOUS' region within China and not a part of it. To deal with the chinese we should play hardball too. Indians do not lack expertise in subtleties either.
