Civilizations are subject to evolution, they are born, reach maturity, grow old and die. It is a cycle.
What is the point in talking about the maturity of India 2000 years back when our women are not safe? what is the point in talking about past riches when the poor cannot have a square meal today? Lets live for today and tomorrow than rueing the centuries gone by.
what matters is what we are today and how we can ensure a better place for our future citizens. The past is good to be read in books not practiced in life now.
The author has written about south India but yy doesnt anyone realise gujjus are far more prosperous and now have almost caught up with south India in terms of IT..i am not a gujju but i really think gujjus are much better off than south indians..

I agree with you that gujjus are better in terms of economic development.But,they can never catch with south in the field of education, science and research.The reason is simple,because these items are not a priority there What is their contribution in IT, Biotech.,Nuclear Research,Space and missile tech. developed in the country today? Just compare this, with role in these areas played by one state ie.Tamilnadu. But,i always revere this land because it gave us Gandhiji.

Dear Veerapandia, I agree with you totally 200%!!!you couldnt have expressed it better!! It was the Christian missionaries who eradicated Sati, Child marriage etc. They were the ones who tried to rehabilitate widows and eradicate the stigma associated with them. North India is a place where (to deep shame) sati is practiced and glorified in the name of Hinduism!! Ask any Hindu Godman to come and touch a leprosy patient with his own hands, which the Stains did for which they were burned alive!!!I am deeply ashamed to be even called an Indian when I remember this horrific Incident. (Pseudo) Hinduism seeks to bring India into a barbaric setup where widows are forced to be burned alive, where the unprivileged and the low caste have no place in society, where the mentally challenged are chained and treated brutally, where small children who should play and have fun are forced into marriage, where dowry and dowry harrasment are a way of life, where the sick,the physically challenged, the lepers, are left in the streets, where LOVE has no role in society, ONLY SELFISHNESS, RITUALS, AND CEREMONIES. Let ALL religion and culture live together in peace and harmony.
The truth is India as a whole is being converted to christianity..especially Tamil Nadu, Kerala and A.P because of its corrupt politicians who r trying to convert people for vote-bank needs ,yet people like this author want to relate progress to culture and say they are confident about South India...How do u think India would develop faster when people are losing the basic ethos of hinduism????????? Also remember India without hinduism wouldnt exist..

Dear sai, No one can deny the important role played by christianity in the southern states in many fields especially,in Education.(I am a Hindu )I think one of the reasons for the BIMARU states(for the whole India) to lag behind is (Pseudo)Hindu religion practiced now.When people in those states are busy discussing about Ram and his bow and arrow, the southern states are talking about Health, Education,FDIs, Infrastructure etc. (pseudo) Hinduism is the root cause of past and present ills in the country. 1. A divisive society based on caste can't have a vision. 2. The so called India's glorious past achievements is, self proclaimed,an attempt to project fictional things as science based and restricted to a miniscule section of the society. 3.Even after 60 years,it is quite disturbing to see people thinking India in terms of Hindu, Hindi, Hindustan alone. 4. All the modern discoveries were made in other countries and India's contribution is very limited. Many Indians have done well abroad in research and other fields when they have been removed from the obrusive environment prevalent here.
Everywhere things like language get "localised".Just listen to the "american english" of a louisiana resident and a newyorker or michigander. significant differene in accent.English gets localised even in US or england. ok

when author talks about 5000 years ago, it is first the Tamil culture that has flourished at that time. The deity of Palani Lord Murugan's statue was made 5000 yeas ago by Sidhar called Bogar using Navapashanam. (Nine poisons). Chola king built worlds beautiful (It is even more than present wonders of the world)Big temple along with peoples co-ordination and support unlike Tajmahal, were taxes were levied on particularsection of people. Even today, Tamil culture is the base for south.

People from North migrated out of India and became citizens of other countries like USA, Australia and Canada. However, people from South particularly from Kerala chose destinations like Dubai and returned with home with big money that increased the rates. Soth Indians are there in USA, but compare their numbers with Gujaratis and Punjabis and most of them work with home-return in mind. 2. When you are comparing the indices, please remember that real estate will also be included. However, it is not consumed. 3. There'll always be difference in growth rate of grown economies and growing economies. What is the big fuss about it? 4. I think that India's responsible authors should focus more on integrating India than regional chauvinism denouncing the other parts of India. 5. Author has come up with South is rocking. Some author would come us as North is rocking. Then it would get into unnecessary denouncing of the others. 6. It is very difficult to comprehend that "China is doing well because there is continuous civilization activity of 10000 years." But US is only 300 +/- year old. US is dominating the world economically. It is not the cultural heritage it is something else. Whether thy are Stanfy or Harvard but the research seems bull shit. By quoting this research, I can smell that the author is trying to prove cultural superiority.
