Facts provided do not support the theory
by Anil Rao on Nov 15, 2006 03:35 AM  Permalink

Rajeev

You reason that the cultural rootedness of South India is the driving factor behind this surge. A fish can take to water and a bird to air any time, irrespective of duration of their captivity. 2nd economy of the world, Japan had a severe set back during World War II. They fought it back hard. You narrated atrocity forced expressional barricade on Bengalis during British time. National anthem is written by a Bengali during that period. Bengal is synomymous with premier Indian literature irrespective of large Muslim crowd (indicating possible suppression of Hindu culture).

The current state of Northern India is due to the social unrest born out of terrorism. Give North Indians a free atmosphere to prosper, they will show their metal as well.

IT Industry chose Bangalore first because of the terrain, weather and massive educational institutes. Only Urban centers (where culture takes less precedance unlike suburban and rural areas) are developed. Where is the cultural influence ?

Southern rising
by Madhavan on Nov 15, 2006 03:07 AM  Permalink

Well it's true hindu culture has been preserved well in the south. The beutiful temples, and the temple arts like kathakali is respected here. Even non-hindus in souther india have adopted hindu rituals and traditions in their marriages, festivals. In Kerala churches conduct saraswathi pooja during navarathri , and their marriages are all plagiarized hindu marriages. In a way Hinduism is 'converting' other religions in the South and thereby keeping our traditions intact.
Not many people are aware that modern day martial arts has its roots in the hindu Kalaraipayattu --which originated in south! vedic sciences like Ayurveda and Vaasthu are also respected more and it's gaining popularity among the youth. Thanks to rediff, it was a good break from pathetic JNU-journalism of communists like dilip dsouzas and praful bidwais. Vande maathram

T K Madhavan.

What "North of India" is to "South of India", "North of S. India" is to "Kerala".
Long live Keralites !

too much hype about Chennai, B'lore, Hyd.

People of AP,TN are hyping too much about the fake software success. We Indians are all hypocrites. It is these states that are responsible for preventing the development of states like Kerala. And remember that it is Kerala which is the most Indian state of India. Good luck Keralites.

All southern states are doing well except Kerala
by M. Joseph on Nov 15, 2006 01:44 AM  Permalink

States like Tamil Nadu, AP are doing well because of their clever politicians. Everyone in the south knows that Tamils are clever (and mean) people.
I feel sorry about the people of Kerala, because I think Kerala is not participating in the success of the south.

South vs North

South Indians are generally more hardworking than the Northies. But I personally feel that the Northies are overall smarter.

Very good article
by M. Joseph on Nov 15, 2006 01:33 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

One of the reasons why south India is making more progress is because more south Indians choose to stay in India unlike the Northies who just fled to western countries. And one reason for that is that we (the south Indians) have to face much more discrimination in the west because of our skin color, accent, looks, etc. compared to the Northies. I am telling this from my own personal experience.

Thank you.

Please ban Rajeev Srinivasan from writing articles on REDIFF
by VAIBHAV on Nov 15, 2006 01:26 AM  Permalink

People like Rajeev Srinivasan have attempted to insult the readers.
He has shamelessly used arguments like 5000 year old history to support the success of the south in the IT.

It is not only shameless but also logically incorrect to use 5000 year old history to explain everything.
He has tried to say that the success of the south in IT is due to 5000 year old history. Of course such parallelisms can be drawn, but it is not courteous to do that. In the US for example, no one even talks about your parental background (or origin), leave aside ancient history.
I can use arguments based on ancient history as a reason for why the state of Rajasthan has great educational institutions like the BITS. But it's not courteous to use history arguments for everything.

overly emphasis on south
by beegees on Nov 15, 2006 12:11 AM  Permalink

i regularly read writer's articles however i do not agree with his arguments this time. though south prospered but its been at the cost of north and especially north west who had to face constant onsluaght of mohammedans over centuries.
this article broadens the gap between north and south, unlike bridging it, as expected from the author.

Wake up Indians !
by VAIBHAV on Nov 15, 2006 12:02 AM  Permalink

This article is just another example of the fact that Indians have not modernised yet and still hold their traditional centuries old beliefs.
In the article, "ancient history" arguments have been used to support the fact that South is doing better economically than the North.
In the US, you will never find people talking about history arguments while comparing different states or regions, even though their history is much more recent. And we in India are still stuck with "ancient history".
Wake up Indians !
