Why shops are being sealed
by BSH on Nov 14, 2006 01:02 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We have to decide what we want to make of our beloved country and our beloved capital Delhi. If in the process some people lose their shops or business, so be it. A revolution or a war must have some casualties, innocent as well as guilty. If we wish our country and capital to be among the world's progressive nations, let us move forward regardless.

Allow Mixed-Use Zoning
by Almitra Patel on Nov 14, 2006 12:24 AM  Permalink

From time immemorial, in every culture, the work pattern has been to combine work with residence: e.g. early tool-making in dwelling-caves, home artisans and craftsmen, todays garage and cottage industries. Todays zoning that strictly segregates residential and commercial areas arose only during the Industrial Revolution, when it became necessary to keep noisy sooty industries away from residential areas.

Today, our major industries lie well outside most cities, and IT, services and similar non-offensive trades are on the rise. So it is vital to allow mixed use zoning where small-time entrepreneurs and professionals can operate from their homes, usually living in or above their work-places. Mixed zoning in the outskirts will attract blue-collar population pressure away from the city centre, where living costs are most expensive but varied employment is now easiest to obtain. This realistic policy that minimizes commuting will also hugely reduce transportation requirements and urban air pollution.
This has also been recommended by the National Slum Policy Sec 5d .

Why shops are...
by K.K.Sinha on Nov 13, 2006 10:09 PM  Permalink

It is a very important piece of news coverage that will decide if rule of law will prevail in this country. In the name of humanitarian approach, the politicians and the bureaucrats have been making illegal money all these days, which is at the cost of future generations and general public at large. Not only all the illegal encroachments should be removed, but the encroachers should be asked whom all did they bribe for this benefit. And actions should be taken against the bribe takers.

Delhi shops
by Umesh on Nov 13, 2006 05:23 PM  Permalink

SC has taken a far reaching decision that should be followed if Delhi wishes to become a planned city with organised living. Delhi being capital of the country sets an example for other cities.India has rampet problem of encrochment of roads and public properties and its time to make people realise that for orderly development rule of the law can not be kept aside for the short term gain of the politicians.
Vote hungry Politicians in Delhi have helped many Bangladeshis to settle there by providing ration cards and inrolling them in electoral register on priority basis.
Delhiets! Don't allow mobocracy to ruin your beautiful city. SC judges are wise, fearless and without political bias, their rulings has far sighted wisdom.Rule of the law is single important factor that seperates a civlised society from un civilised one.

sealing should resume
by Davinder on Nov 13, 2006 12:56 PM  Permalink

Its high time that we all should obey the apex court orders. If anything good is happening in the country , the credit goes to the court and media. The government and the system has failed in every aspect. The government system has not been able to provide any neccessties to the common man.

The government(politicians) are defending the traders just to protect their vote bank.Otherwise they are least concerned with the misery of common man.

sealing of shops
by mohanan on Nov 11, 2006 03:43 PM  Permalink

Govt has no right to formulate a law and then NOT implement it. More over then argue against that in court(just for political gains) when level headed citizens approach for legal remedy. What SC has done is very very correct and reaffirms faith in the judicial system of this country
