YES IT DOES
by Vinay on Nov 01, 2006 04:41 PM  Permalink

Yes. All the names of the places were anglicised and with India in world focus, it is necessary for us to stand by our culture and heritage. Therefore the world should call our places, the way they should be called. Bangalore should be Bangalooru and Belgaum should be Belgavi. It has to have the kannada touch.

Its is tendency that people will use to what they are given. Only its a matter of time.

bangalore or looru
by bhavesh_bhojak on Nov 01, 2006 04:40 PM  Permalink

These all things are rubbish as far as progress of our country is concerned. There should be some productive projects rather than wasting time and money in such bullshit work. The conditions will remain same even if you name it as America. This is like
Ekta Kapoor's serials where names change but the situation is same.

banglore to Bengaluru
by Dipesh vartak on Nov 01, 2006 04:35 PM  Permalink

We have seen this happen in M'shtra. Its just a waste of everything .. from the State machinery/ tax payer's money / Corporate Identity of a World renowened city???? we are losing it all. When will the Indian politicians do something which will emphasize progress.. rather than indulging in naming ceremonies. STOP THIS NONSENSE PLEASE!!!!!

I won't agree
by Gopinath on Nov 01, 2006 04:34 PM  Permalink

It would not make any difference in changing the city name from bangalore to bangalooru. Bangalore is the well known name not only in India and also in US for its IT contribution.

The name Bangalore is very attractive when compared to Bangalooru.

Regards
Gopinath

Namma Bengaluru/Bengalooru
by virupaksha salimath on Nov 01, 2006 04:33 PM  Permalink

Firstly happy Karnataka Rajyotsava to all the readers!!

I agree that, name is just an identification.

But there is no wrong in renaming. It shows our oariginality. Why should we change ourself just because it is difficult for other to pronounce & follow the name. Why we should have two names!

Name of the city should be a unique one. If you allow people to use diff names, who know tomorrow you will end with more than 3-4 names for the same place/thing. Amount & effort required to retain our originality is immaterial. We should retain our originality at any cost. More the delay it will cost you more.

At the same time, it won't affect in any way, Bengalooru is going to remain/retain as the pride of India & darling to all industries. We have some examples of Chennai, Kolkotta, Mumbai which we changes very recently. There was no problem to these cities. Bengalooru has earned its prestige because of its own people, climate, resources. So changind the name won't affect in any way.

Jai Bharath,

Jai Karnataka..............

BENDAKALOORU
by SUDHIR JADE on Nov 01, 2006 04:32 PM  Permalink

What's in a name. What ever you do now, Bendakalauru of Kempe gowda cannot come back. There were no traffic jams, there was no broad gauge train to delhi direct, there was no direct flights to overseas, jutka was a good mode of transport from bus stand to city market, it hardly used to take 15 minutes to leave city limits when going out. THAT WAS BANGALORE.

CAN ANY OF THIS BE BROUGHT BACK ? Bangalore is synonym with modern day metro. Bangalore is recognised world over. Chennai was renamed. Tiruvanathapuram was renamed. so u r also in Q.
Nothing original.
Emulate something for useful:
1.Reclaim waste lands 2. Make rain harvesting compulsory in new buildings 3. develop efficient garbage disposal system. 4. rehabilitate beggers
5. Provide alternate mechanism to avoid child labour.
List is endless-but requires hardwork, political will and sincerety. Does any politian worth his name ready for it.

changing names of cities
by rajkrishna on Nov 01, 2006 04:31 PM  Permalink

i think by changing names will not give a kannada touch as most of the kannda people liking the old names . if one person says to change name and we are obeying according to that ,it is shame for us.
