change of name
by Dr. Radha Vasan on Dec 15, 2006 12:27 PM  Permalink

India is a 'secular' state. Like it or not, English is our language, and we should be grateful for it because we are now able to converse and make ourselves understand to the western world. We cannot be within ourselves only, like an ostrich with its head in the sand, while the world around us is going forward.
Names of States and cities, whether anglicized or not, are beautiful sounding as they are. Madras had such a glorious lovely flavour to it, 'chennai' has spoiled the image of it. Its ok to have 'chennai' in the vernacular, but not as its official name. If you want to make our country a big village, then why do the politicians go 'abroad' to get international people to invest in our country? Stay in the country. DOnt look for foreign investments.
Bangalore has such a style to it, such class to it. Bangalooru sounds as if somebody is in torture!
Please dont lets change names as a political gimmick. If you want to go back to the 14 century, you go back with your family, keep them in shackles for all the world cares, but dont demean beautiful names in the 'name' of culture.

Bangaluru
by RMD on Dec 08, 2006 12:08 PM  Permalink

Looks like the Governmentin power has little to show interms of improvement for the citizens of our city.

After the C.M. S.M. Krishna, we wonder if we have a CM or even a semblence of governance.

Bangalore to Bangaluru wont change the chaotic traffic, increase in drunk driving, filth and litter, increase in crime, increase in the stray dog population, corruption in Govt offices etc. and brazen Govt apathy to the tax paying citizens.

Can we please have GOD as the next C.M.

Bangalore or Bangalooru?
by Atul Arora on Dec 08, 2006 06:11 AM  Permalink

Definitely not, government just is wasting valuable time. Instead they should be concentrating on how to develope bangalore's infrastructure in the light of its increasing popularity among foriegn countries to be shown as IT hub of INDIA. It will just create unnecessary paper work and confusion for people of India and other pert of the world.

changing the name of Bangalore
by Bandana Choudhury on Nov 13, 2006 06:14 PM  Permalink

I have been in Karnataka for the last 10 years and I have fond memories of both Mysore and Bangalore where I lived.Changing the names of these places will have no reasonable impact at all.It is an expensive proposition. This money could be utilised in other areas that need attention. As far as prof. Anantmurthy's feeling is concerned,I have high regards for it.But changing the name of the city is really not enough to bring back the flavour he is looking for.The city is full of people from all parts of the world so a mere change of the name will have no impact,I feel.

Nothing in name change !
by manish on Nov 10, 2006 12:26 PM  Permalink

What that change of city name has brought to the common man?Does it uplifts someone or makes life comfortable? It only satisfies the ego of certain section of the society.People should avoid all this nonsense as it only results in wastage of money and resources.People should try not to become victims to politics involved in these type of issues no matter any part of the country.

Who are these to oppose Bangalooru
by Bhima on Nov 09, 2006 11:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I dont understand who these people are who are not chappy with renaming of bangalore to Bangalooru. It is land of Kannada.it is upto Kannadigas to decide what they want name it. Others please mind your own business.you are not welcomed to give suggestions.Everybody blames government but it is suggested by Kannada cultural think tank to rename it.Politicians did only upon their recommedation.I do agree politicians may not be honest but renaming to bangalooru is emotional to Kannadigas, so please mind you business.

I guess you should first learn to appreciate the fact that we are all Indians first and then talk about kannadigas, gujarati, tamilian etc. Every Indian has right in this country to express his views on changes in this country. Dont talk as if Bangalore is only for you. And moreover Bangalore is a cosmopolitan city, where different people stay. So any change should be accepted by each one of them. NOT JUST BY YOU OR KANNADIGAS ALONE.

Bangalore was Good! Bangalooru will be great
by Samson Paul on Nov 08, 2006 03:25 PM  Permalink

Definitely the Govt decision is good. I appreciate it. When the world needs whats there in bangalooru why not the new name? There's nothing that they can't pronounce it... they can do it and let them do it. When the foreginers rules India then they called Bangalore.. now we are ruling India and in the near future the world... so let them use the new name.
Come on bangalooru guys... There's nothing we lose having the new name or having the old name. Bangaloru is nice.... its the new name of the era.
Just watch the world will like it.

Lot are there to think (n improve) about...
by PUMA on Nov 08, 2006 01:05 PM  Permalink

Let me just melt down the serious situation here.

If the same is said to be in our own Bengal n Oriya (khach khach), Bihar (the modulation of lalooji) and Punjab (balleh! Balleh!), just imagine the position there of the others who dont speak the native language.

A southie trying to utter amrister(hu), chandigarh(hu) or Cuttak(Chu), Kolkatta(Chu). For a while, those folks should try to come out and think of this. Its big world for them, actually.

By nature, one will try to speak in a way of the language he has practiced so far Even his current conversation is by other some language.

In the international ground, a French r Russian speaks English only in the way he gets.

Better it could be to think of those 20% (below povertiy line) of ours who struggles for everyday of his life.
