Ridiculous
by Sabarish Sasidharan on Mar 17, 2006 09:36 AM  Permalink

This is utterly ridiculous... We don't need US aid to understand what the problem is and to plot the solution... One size does not fit all. All we need is a concentrated effort to understand the down to earth problems that plague the farmers and provide simple solutions. The solutions that the farmers need are going to be mostly simple down to earth solutions instead of a one size fits all solution.

All i can do is laugh helplessly...

An evergreen revolution?

Everything wrong with India today is a direct result of the stupid, destructive communist policies of successive Congress govts, which destroyed the economy in order to wield total power. Even today, a farmer is not free to sell his own crops as he pleases, but MUST take it to govt controlled mandis for sale. The govt still DICTATES everything - the legacy of the dictatorial Cong.

An evergreen revolution?

If all the children of farmers were to follow in their parents' footsteps, then the country will forever remain poor and underdeveloped, as the holdings in India are too tiny to support the overwhelming majority of 'farmers' who presently barely eke out a miserable existence from the land. Farming accounts for about 20% of GDP but employs about 65% of the population. What is needed is more job opportunities in other sectors close-in to their villages, such that migrating to the already overcrowded polluted, stinking cities is not their first option.
