If all the children of farmers were to follow in their parents' footsteps, then the country will forever remain poor and underdeveloped, as the holdings in India are too tiny to support the overwhelming majority of 'farmers' who presently barely eke out a miserable existence from the land. Farming accounts for about 20% of GDP but employs about 65% of the population. What is needed is more job opportunities in other sectors close-in to their villages, such that migrating to the already overcrowded polluted, stinking cities is not their first option.
