While the idea of the author is good, I would like to point out that the wave of propoganda that India is getting, is very much needed. Most of the Indians, although proud of their past and culture which the author talks about, continue to look down upon themselves as a race of 'losers'. They think that nothing happens right in the country and all the policies that our leaders adopt whether economic or military or political are made by incompetent bureaucrats and corrupt politicians. In such a time, the current propaganda is definitely a good morale booster and I think, it is helping people have a second look upon themselves and bring in 'self/national-confidence' which is badly lacking among the Indians in general. This international attention should help the average Indian to stop banking only upon our 'glorious past' to draw motivation and confidence and instead to focus and believe in our potential in the 'present' as well.
it was a great experience, when i read through your article. it was honest and sincere effort to explain the contradictions india is today. we really have to shed our earlier complexes that forces us to lap up every praise that comes our way as if our lives were dependent upon them. the message of the hour is that we develop our self confidence retaining our gentle charms and avoiding the arrogance which comes naturally with every success.
If I open a newspaper in the morning, I have to skip my breakfast..with all the murders, rapes, mayhems and corrupt paan-chewing fellows profiled on front pages, I can't get myself to bite into a hot toast or relish the morning cuppa
Haven't you really got nothing better to do than fill up Rediff space with such pathetic twaddle? Apart from callling on India not to ally itself with Bush you do not say what India is supposed to do to further its relationship with the US. All you produce is some camplacent platitudinous gibberish about how India is supposedly set to lead the world into kingodom come, complete with that hideously boring poem by Tagore about - yawn ! - wisdom....!!! And this just when jihadis have bombed Varanasi and mullah-led fanatics are rampaging through Indian cities because of some cartoon in Denmark....Haven't you heard the bad news yet? Forget all that silly bragging about how India will become a superpower. It is going to become a super-poor supper for jihadis. As therir rioting and bombing get out of control, investors will flee India. Every Indian who can will follow. India is incapable of controlling 150 million Muslims; what will it do in 20 years when there will be 300 million ?!! Wake up, you silly clown !!!
Mr Krishnan started well in an attempt to describe the attitude of the left but went far away in tne end.Yes in a way his analysis on how to eveluate India of to- day is not far behind but I would like to make a point to add that :PROGRESS MUST BE WITHOUT ANY AVOIDABLE HINDERENCE:The left parties of India still think and aspire under the cloud of :MAKING POOR RICH BY MAKING RICH POORER: When are they going to understand that any attempt to provide benifits without any service or sacrifice in bound to be misused and make working hand cripple for ever. This is what our left parties want and make people live on doles. One can not appriciate present India staying in India but from abroad. To day India is noticed for her economic growth graph,techno- logical advancement and multitude of effective trained hand on science and technology.Inspite of their best effort no pressure from left can stop India moving ahead. All of us must see that present policy remain in place with eye on progress and prosperity to all.
Is he talking about the recent Budget. If people work and earn money we have a way of taking away that extra efforts by way of any form of tax including service tax. If you ask for infrastructure to be provided by the Government then there is a ready answer What about villeges and other less developed towns and cities. But if you all improve your efficiency and increase the output we are here to tax you. The next budget is likely to concentrate on how many times your hand reaches your mouth while eating. If the number exceeds say 10 times there is an extra service charges for in excess of times with a minimum service tax upto 10 times. The Bush is not in the bushes, very much here.
Arguments are all and fine, but what is the author trying to imply? Can he exactly give a picture of the news he wants to read with his morning biskuts:)?
I really agree with Arun....let us live and believe in freedom and raise above petty self interest and practice true brotherhood...Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam...and be the beacon of peace, love and progress.
