Zia - Indira Gandhi and Siachen?
by TV Kumar on Jul 03, 2006 06:18 PM  Permalink

Mr Verma has tried to unravel a 'mystery', which is otherwise well known matter of the long past. We wish, he had come out with this story a couple of years if not a decade back. Isn't it too late for the nation to read it when many a glacier have melted in the Indus' originating basin? TV Kumar

The author and the editor are sleeping.......
by P. Sham on Jul 02, 2006 03:37 PM  Permalink

The Ex. Raw official Mr. A.K. Verma, has his facts wrong, Zia died much before 1997. It is sad a senior person like Mr. A.K. Verma, makes such a silly mistake, and the editor of Rediff is also to be blamed for allowing such errors to be published on the rediff.

Zia's death killed Siachen Pact
by Rajesh G. Chavan on Jul 02, 2006 12:11 PM  Permalink

It is a well written article barring the facts that a spoof has been made in recording the years-for which the proof readers should be blamed.
The author appears to be near the facts as per the historical details he has provided. The author states that "Islamisation, introduced by Zia as a weapon of policy, has grown by leaps and bounds in Pakistan". It is true and the results are there to see for the whole world. This Planet is for everyone and not for a particular religion, sect or a class of people be it Hindu Muslim Christians etc.We should learn to live and let live and not live and let others die (read killed for propogating ones religion). It does not pay at all. Pakistani leaders should realised now that their countries progress lies in developing the country economically and increasing the betterment of the people as a whole instead of unnecesarily wasting the money for fighting for a cause which does not bear any fruits and not likened by the whole world.

Zia took power in 1997 ? This Editor was working for RAW but does not seem to be doing his job properly. He should get his facts right.

What's in few numbers, 1977, 1997.... a year or two makes no material difference, right? This rag has a totally callous disregard for numerical accuracy, whether in terms of money, population, dates...you name it, the editior of this rag seems to be on perpetual holiday - the writers and proof-readers should all be sacked.

Indo Pak Relations
by Kanaka Duraga Murali on Jun 30, 2006 08:52 PM  Permalink

Although a well written article it holds very little susbtance. I have read it in news many a times that Pakistan is more than willing to solve the Siachen Problem and it can also be gauged from the fact that they had infact initiated this process. However India had categorically refused to budge from their current position whatever the reasons might be. Moreover it must not be forgot that India trained and supported the Mukti Bahaini during East Pakistan's struggle for freedom duri´ng the 1970's. More recently Indian involvent in the Balochistan Uprising has been confirmed by many Indepent International observers. So we should see Pakistan's involvment in India in the same light. Moreover isnt India's RAW also involved in bombings in Pakistan. Atleast this is what they claim like we always do behind every anti India activity ISI is involved. As far as Jihad is concerned to the best of my beleif and knowledge there wouldnot be 1% of muslims in India who advocate it but I am afraid if events like in Bhagalpur, Meerut, Ayodhya, Mumbai and Gujrat keep happenning there would be more propents for it. But my reading of History has never made me think that India has ever suffered Jihad.

Ghost?

The article needs correction. It starts with "In 1997, General Zia-ul Haq seized power" and ends with stating he died in 1988 :-)
