10 things about india i hate
by swaminathan on Jun 23, 2006 12:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

23 june 06

Some other points that can add to make another 10, from my side-out of frustration, experience etc.

1. QUALITY OF PRODUCTS:
a. Most of the manufacturers feel that they MUST use minus tolerance but within the laws; this an invisible profit.
b. Most manufacturers feel that the paying capacity being average, quality need not be high though feasible to make within that price and still make profit;
c. Quality check is cursory and subcontracting being the easy way out, the lending of name is enough with the result, when you pay for a branded product, you can see the inferior quality of various parts-noticeable being fans, cars, scooters, government run buses/railway coaches etc. Nothing is proper and ever lasting and the stainless steel rusts first.

2.Total dislike for time/time schedule:
You fix a time for a business meet - be it with a private organisation or government; the other person will not turn up on time and will execuse to attend phones or urgent short meetings with management.!!

you give an order for execution, then the same with request for extension to execute without penalty.

well also.. the HIGH fees... especially in the USA, is a NON RESIDENT fees, charged to ANY ONE who is NOT a resident of a particular state. It does not depend on citizenship. So if u go to college in Florida, but have lived all your life in Arizona, you pay the SAME non resident fees as a desi coming to florida from INDIA.

All's well except white men being charged extra
by Revolutionary on Jun 23, 2006 12:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Do you know Mister that when Indian students go abroad for "higher studies", they end up paying 6-10 times more fees than white/black/and yellow men/women? Basically its not about your skin. It's about citizenship. Most student who go to study abroad can ill afford the higher fees. So get used to inequality....its everywhere...not just in India. It's in France too. I'm sure you know that.

It is not true

American universities do not have separate rules. Interstate rules exist-other state people paying more-further the universities are private. He is talking of publicly owned (govt controlled) places they leagalize the discrimination

As a matter of fact, France is one of the very few countries that don't charge extra fees for foreign university students. Our fees are very low, around 350 a year ($400), including medical insurance that gives you access to one the best health care systems in the world (says the World Health Organization). This is one of the areas where we are really trying to uphold our motto of 'Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité'. We have warts enough to make us far from perfect so at least give us our dues where they are deserved. Anyway, I think the columnist was referring to the charging of super fares on trains, planes, museum entrance etc... Something that is unknown anywhere else and is redolent of good old Intourist (the Soviet travel organization) when they were desperate to get their hands on hard currency...

Strongly disagree on 4th point
by Sreenu on Jun 23, 2006 12:14 PM  Permalink

I agree with some of the points, but strongly disagree with the 4th. To the writer for your kind information, India charges very minimal amount from Foreign tourists. If one has to pursue education in Europe, some universities have different fee structure for foreigners. For example the Univ where I studied in UK charges approximately £12000 more as compared to localites. This is the case with many univs. So please research first and then pass on your comments on India. Damn there is discrimination every where in the world.

The rest of the issues my dear fellow Indians will share their views...

'Holidays'
by Bonnya on Jun 23, 2006 12:11 PM  Permalink

Hi Claude,

I agree with you on all points except the last one. Strikes & so-called 'french leaves' are of course unforgiveable, but holidays or leaves taken due to family/ religious functions/ reasons are part of the work-life balance in our country.

Even in west & the 'developed countries', people do take leaves, isn't it? Why put the blame on us Indians alone?

Really True
by Romit on Jun 23, 2006 12:11 PM  Permalink

The column abt 10 things I hate abt India is so true.Sometimes I feel dat I cant do much to change all dat, can I?But at the same time this requires collective efforts from us, the citizens of India to pull up our socks and work around these problems which will always exist. The root cause of this is the Indian mindset and the vast population.Nobody is to blame for this, but us.So I beliv its high time we make sure to get the better of these (10) problems ourselves instead of just reading them.
I have vowed to follow to make India a Gr8 country and i beliv every one of us will follow suit

Excellent Views
by Suva on Jun 23, 2006 12:09 PM  Permalink

I cannot agree more with the 10 problems you have mentioned. However I disagree with the 95% -good and 5% -bad evaluation. There are several more acute problems like crime against women, poor water management, foeticide etc which are more common in other parts of the country to which you may not have been exposed yet. if you take India as a whole, I am sure you will find at least 50 more things you would not like with the same intensity.

However it is heart warming to see that your love for this country is overwhelming these drawbacks.

Hope you enjoy your life in India!

by Girish on Jun 23, 2006 12:08 PM  Permalink

A very good and objective article.
India is full of hypocracy too. Hypocracy about almost everything..Marriage, Work, Education, Health, Religion, Public issues, you name it.
Any crticism and you will face the wrath for belittling self righteous glory of the nation. Any praise for it, and you will get 50 points proving India is in DS.

HATES / LOVES INDIA
by chandan on Jun 23, 2006 12:07 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

You hate or donot digest because of those ten reasons. Without those Indian people cannot live. A normal person should be honest, sincere, loyal etc. he should be good. But the environment wouldnot allow him to be in this environment.

Corruption is where India stands.
Every person, company(software/hardware) all are corrupted in some or other way. They are such that.

You have to live.
You got to other country and do a sweeper job for some dollars. But here you donot even sweep ur house rather u expect your maid to come and sweep.

You compare India with other countries.
First of all digest urself and then digest the characteristics of any nation.

Change urself and ur thinking

You are very true. Most Indians do the jobs that our maids and sweepers do abroad for a few dollars and yet they crib about good old India without being appreciative. If each one contributes their mite including our politicians, India would have been better than any other country in the world. No place on earth can provide the warmth, affection and strong culture as our country provides and we should be grateful for that. If corruption is taken care of, all else will fall in place. The Motto for every Indian should be : FIGHT CORRUPTION AND BE HAPPY!
