10 Things I hate About India - Taj Hotels
by Susie Green on Jul 03, 2006 03:45 AM  Permalink

Well as someone white skinned yes the dual tarrif is sometimes really
annoying. Actually, I don't mind so much in nature reserves, where
my GBD can help preserve your wondrous heritage, but the Taj Hotel
Chain?? Rupees for the already mega rich Tatas?
I checked into the Taj in Delhi while my Indian national friend parked
his car. I gave his name as the name for the room, but they still
demanded 13,000 rupees until he came from the car park, and even
then they tried to say because I was English we had to pay English
rates. After an argument we paid 7000 rupees, still hardly an
econonmy, and they refused to switch the air conditioning off even
though it was August, but I and my friend were both having to wear
jumpers in our room. And the windows are locked so you can't open
them
This kind of behaviour makes me REALLY cross.

Hopefully a balanced view
by umashankar Das on Jul 03, 2006 01:16 AM  Permalink

I would like to present a more balanced view to this.
When I was in paris, I had these problems to face.

1. We had to pay 90 Euros for a Hotel room where they did not even fit the Heater running.
2. If you speak in English , people dont bother responding. It is as if they hate all things English.

3.Politicians:At least it is agreed that you hate it in India. Do you feel the same about french politicians?

4.Traffic is bad.But it does work, because the speed is very less in India.

Other points:
It is true that Foregin tourists are treated differently. This should be looked at.

Dear Arpi, here is what some smart people said about France
by Chachaji on Jul 02, 2006 11:04 PM  Permalink

QUOTATIONS ABOUT FRANCE-

The French are sawed-off sissies who eat snails and slugs and cheese that smells like people's feet. Utter cowards who force their own children to drink wine, they gibber like baboons even when you try to speak to them in their own wimpy language. - P. J. O'Rourke

France has neither winter, summer, nor morals - apart from these drawbacks it it a fine country. - Mark Twain

France is a country where the money falls apart but you can't tear the toilet paper. - Billy Wilder

Living in India is best if you have income from abroad or you are rich
by Chachaji on Jul 02, 2006 10:50 PM  Permalink

Arpi has overstated some problems which he faces because he has foreign income.
India has two classes of people, very rich or very poor. It is heaven on the cheap if you are rich.

You can now get any service and facility that is available anywhere in the world and you can live in your cocoon.

Ten Things I hate about India
by Sunir Sharma on Jul 01, 2006 07:25 PM  Permalink

Well, the French arrived, stayed, observed and reacted.
India most certainly is a unique example to the world...being an Indian at times I am ashamed at the way we are going with Law & Order, Traffic, Population, Red Tape, Lallu Prasad etc., etc.
Yet, I must say only GOD is running this country.

10 things i hate about india....why?
by Aaftab Aalam on Jul 01, 2006 12:04 PM  Permalink

Being an Indian I cannot think about India as forgieners say or think about it. I do believe that some reforms are required in the mindset and infrastructure, but I cannot agree that India or Indians are full of drawbacks...what should be told who visit here to see negative points. Actually we are stubborn type of people, we really do not accept any change easily. That is why we are carrying points mentioned in the list since last 60 years. Still people from all over the world come to India to have peace.

10 things about India
by Lawrence on Jun 30, 2006 11:09 PM  Permalink

Dear Sir/Madam,

Whoever has written about those 10 things hated most, I guess he or she must have written them in jest. If written seriously, my frend, please be informed that all that you mentioned here also happens in the USA or in Europe or as a matter of fact in any part of the world. When I visit any other country, I need to cough up dollars, which is surely costly for me in my own country. So also, whats wrong if the foreigners are charged a little more. Dont you think, that the same foreigner would end up paying 10 times more than what they paid to see Taj Mahal, if they were to visit a bar or a restaurant. And that too, without thinking twice. Come on frend, dont look at the negatives, look at the positives that our dear country India can offer. My ..err...our country can offer the worlds best environment that any other country can offer. Dont look at pollution alone, its not the only criteria. Talking about USA, dont forget, it took them 400 years to be what they are today, and United India is just over 50 years. But thanks for also appreciating India and saying that 95% is good. Now, I can go on and on...but guess I should stop. Wish you all the very best, my Friend.
