Pointing out is...
by Narendra Pathuri on Jul 07, 2006 09:10 PM  Permalink

easy and good in some ways. No one says what you said are not there in India...at the same time...it's matter of concern in all developing countries.

I think you are an NRI. You would think of doing something good for the country also and do something morally and financially to better conditions and at least supporting some movement which is trying to change some bad things.

well, i agree with all the 10 points that you hate about india. this has been an issue for the past several years.
the author had done a good job of collecting this infomration. instead of publishing it in the rediff page, if he had put little effort to working towards addressing any one of the 10 issue, it would have been wonderful. and i guess that is what would make a difference if each one of us start working towards solving such issues, instead of cribbing and writing articles. if you cannot solve,or cannot make an effort, dont crib, just live with it

It is sad that you are ashamed of secularism and reservation. You like India become a Hindu raj? and Bal Thackeray or Swami Girja Nand rule over India? AND all the universities and offices and military remain full with upper class Brahmins only, who anyway are ruling over the Nation for the last 50+ years keeping more than 70% Indians below proverty line and live on their largesses.
Unfortunately people like you are only 5% but still causing serious problems for India for the last 100 years.

by narayan on Jul 06, 2006 04:53 PM  Permalink

Two things I hate most about India are
1. Secularism and 2) Reservation.

These are the two things for which I feel ashamed to be called an Indian.

different rates for tourists
by Vishwas Mokashi on Jul 06, 2006 03:54 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The 10 highlighted points are absolutely correct. I would just like to correct one small issue. I recently went to Egypt with my family and there also the rates charged for local and foreign tourists were different. So this practice is not only in India.

France is NOT better than India in many ways
by mamta on Jul 08, 2006 08:41 PM  Permalink
I had been to paris not more than 15 days back.

You talk about racial discrimination - In france Indians are treated like third rate citizens- blacks are treated better if they can speak french..

French are the most rude and tourist un-friendly - probably they forget that its one of their main source of incomes - french wine is losing out to californian, australian and chile wines. They have good wines only for export- you cant get a taste of sweet wine easily in Paris.

The international airport is so disorganised, it makes srilankan airport look far more better in comparision.

The metros are dirty and not properly indicated. You would be lucky if you can find any washrooms (they dont know what it means - they understand only if you ask for 'toilletes') inside a metro station or in many departmental stores...

The Food in france - lets not even talk about it...the only places whish do good are the American McDonald and the places which serve italian food...

I came across a book "The Best French menus"...The thought that came to my mind was "Are there any?"

Whatever the minuses in India, I felt so happy to be back here to be amidst kind, hospitable people.

World forced Indians to change & not India
by Sanjay Rane on Jul 06, 2006 03:05 PM  Permalink

Claude Arpi may be travelled all over world and might be seen length & width of each & every developed country. But has she seen the India. Must be not at all.
Because our idiology which was based on valued ancient "granth" had been changed due to westernisation. India has not changed by its culture but Indians changed. They are behind money, power, name & fame.

Even then instead of criticising Indians I feel Indians are better than white or yellow skin people. At least Indians help at the time of real need. Take cases like bomb-blast series in Mumbai, 26/7/06 flood in Mumbai, TSunami in Chennai & Ambernath Yaatra. Indians don't like to stop but they walk & walk & walk.........
The same case of USA / UK. That developed country/ies took money days or even months to bring normal life.

Even Muslims country are worsen than other East or West countries.
Are you feel safe in Pakistan, Afganistan, Kuwait ???
Will you feel safty in Canada /USA ?????
Now tell me
Which country you llke ?????
