You are right Devdas
by CV on Jun 22, 2006 10:24 AM  Permalink

Well, I have been away from India for sometime now, having come up by slogging in life and against odds like reservation, oppression by back-doorers and poverty and making a life here in the US.

I did not know that you back-doorers (reserved guys) have renamed Merit as "Stupidity", just like you guys go around renaming monuments built by renowed Engineers and so named after them with Babasaheb Ambedkar (Airport / Building / Bridge, whatever).

So, you are right, as per your Arjun Singh Dictionary definition, I am "Stupid". However, when I called you stupid, I was referring to Webster's dictionary, let me make that very clear. For being stupid (Webster defn.) and making stupidity the norm in India, you should get a standing ovation by the brainless junta like you. Keep up your good work!!!!

Prof, You are 100% right
by Jagadeesan Subbarayan on Jun 19, 2006 05:39 AM  Permalink

Sir,

You were right in pointing out that only who strive for the education would benefit out of it and make India prouder.

Britishers followed the "Divide and Rule" and our good politicians are following their very foot steps and thereby weakening not only Indian education but also these very people for whom they are suddenly protective.

Once a person comes thru resevation and not thru merit it affects the very essence of the harmony in the eductaional institution.

Instead, as you rigtly pointed out, teachers at school should take special care of students (whatever caste) who are not much gifted with learning quick and also instigate the fire to learn/achieve as your science teacher did.

Dr.Ambedkar, the God for Dalits, did get the good teacher who helped in thru the barriers of learning.

Goverment should start looking at the basic education being provided, students would automatically come thru merit and help India shine.

Government schools faculties are among those who avoid doing justice to their work, whip them up. I apologise for the language, but I meant only those who didn't do the justice to their work.

Last but not the least, article was excellent

Please Don't Lie
by Sane on Jun 16, 2006 08:43 PM  Permalink

Mr. Himanshu

I am from IIT Delhi and Am a Brahmin and I have lot of SC/ST friends from IIT.
You are very much wrong in ur statement that in IIT caste discrimination is there. I have not seen a single incident of Caste discrimination in IIT Delhi.
Please dont give false statements just to prove ur point. And if there is any Professor or Senior who is casteist then why didnt you inform the Warden or Dean or the Director ?
Casteism begins only when ppl have ghettozied mentality and IITs for GODs sake are not ghettoized YET.

Thanks

OBC should fight ; Minority should fight; Forward class should fight
by Sivakumar on Jun 16, 2006 08:38 PM  Permalink

India is the only country wherein a lot of social maladies that undermines the developement of its people. It is imposiible in near or far future to see a 'Developed India' unless the social maladies (such as the caste system, religious chauvanism, socio-economic inequities, wide rural-urban divide, inequal school education system, biased printed and electronic media, corrupted poiltician, bribed bereauocrates etc..) are tackled with harse treatment. Until then, OBC should fight for their stake; minority should fight for their rights; Sc/ST should fight for their upliftment; Forward class should fight for their survival. Everyone in India needs to land in the battle field because of a very divided social system and vested intersts of a few.

Professor !

I am an OBC too. I am from a very very poor family. I am in the US and I tell u,....the so called quota is to some extent a politicians tool to get votes. I have experienced this in my own education. I dint get any benefit out of reservations. However I dont deny that it does help people to some extent. But there should be some justifications to the intellectuals who really deserve......But I agree to ur point that we are not in the charity to receive something by not pocessing the competency. Hey Guys ...... you should realize that intellectuality has nothing to do with caste. So we should really try to compete intellectually. Demand equal attention in schools. Somebody said we are not treated well in the schools. We should infact do a strike for that not to seek reservations. "We need to be treated equally".

OBCs should throw away the demeaning crutches offered
by NB Nair on Jun 15, 2006 05:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I wish educated and enlightened people like Pro MS Gopinathan should speak out, without fear or favour, what is needed to emancipate our oppressed and enslaved fellow citizens.
We try to follow the democratic US in many ways. In the US no one is asked his caste or religion. Why cant we, in India, learn to see each other as an Indian and grow into a healthy democratic society?
Unfortunately, our leaders across all party lines, want to follow the Britishers Divide and Rule policy, keep the oppressed always dependant and under their mercy assured vote banks!
Even after five decades of democratic rule, how many children in our country are denied education even up to matriculation? And how many starvation deaths of poor children (call it only mal-nutrition deaths) take place in India? Yes, our democracy had created so many crore-pathies in all castes and creeds. A glance through the assets filed by many champions of the poor to the election commission will reveal at least some truths!
The poor and the oppressed deserve extra considerations an assured helping hand - in their struggles to come up, in terms of financial aids and other facilities.

What should OBCs Do?
by sivaraman on Jun 14, 2006 11:13 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Peoples against the reservations are generally discussing this issue during their Star Hotel Party, International seminar leisure time, Airport lounge and during ISD conversion with their sons/daughter.
Of course by writing article in rediff and all.

The above may indicate that these peoples are not really affected by reservations they reached their higher goals nothing prevented them, their childrens are well settled in abroad and grand childrens are studying in abroad. But they will make noise about the reservations, as if they really affected by reservations.

I do agree that some forward caste peoples are affected by reservations but their percentage is less compared to rest of the nation.

Please dont include the reservation topic in to your following hot topics during your Tea/ leisure time.

1.Politions are not doing anything for the country.
2.India is a corrupted nation.
3.Global terrorism.
4.India is a polluted country
5.Indians are poor in sports.

RE:What should OBCs Do?
by CV on Jun 18, 2006 08:15 AM  Permalink
You are right for once sivaraman. We do discuss about reservation at airport lounges, star hotel parties and over ISD calls, although reservation worked against us. But inspite of using reservation, if your children end up being failures like you and you get to communicate with them over post-cards, then maybe failure is in your genes and even 100% reservation will not be of help to people like you.

We still care about India and about MERIT(Superior quality or worth; excellence; A quality deserving praise or approval; virtue:-I know people like you do not know the meaning of MERIT, so thought I will include the dictionary meaning of that). Not some forward caste person, every self-respecting, hard-working person who believes in virtue of MERIT is affected by reservation.

Why should we guys not include reservation as a topic of discussion? Should we just let a bunch of fools goof up on this also and should we guys keep quiet? LOSERS like you never think of running faster and winning the race. You guys prefer to reduce the distance for yourself, while keeping the same rules for others. How far will this mentality and thinking take you in life? Try to think & use your brain.

The only answer to this mess....
by RTB on Jun 14, 2006 04:43 AM  Permalink

There can be only one solution to this entire mess....

1) Abolish entire caste system and reservation. Make it completely illegal... Anyway, this won't happen

OR

2) Divide the country into two, one part for all OBCs/SC/STs and another for only general merit people. All big industries / educational institutes / hospitals etc owned and / or managed by general merit to be shifted to general merit part. We shall see who thrives and who flourishes. Let all general merit / the 'branded upper caste' form an Israel inside India. Anyone under any form of reservation goes to the other part. Politicians have created virtual boundaries, time for us to create a real one!
