The judgement as reported sounds quite sensible and restores some faith in the future of our society which is being destroyed by ultra corrupt politicians and spineless bureaucrats. This judgement hopefully will uphold merit to some extent. If even after more than 50 years of Independence, basic qualifications have to be sacrificed to push through half baked incompetent people, then the independence quite clearly has been turned into a sham!
It is a sad cmmentary on the administration that every time the Supreme Court has to come in to ensure the right over the wrong. Any body with a bit of common sense should be able to understand that the meaning of reservation is that if the qualifications /performance in the selection process are comparable between a general category candidate and a scheduled caste candidate, then the SC candidate gets the preference. But if he/she does not have the required qualification , there is no question of his/her getting the job or the promotion in preference to a general candidate. Moreover, it is long overdue that the reservation policy as existent in the present set up must be scrapped altogether. Merit, and merit only should be the criteria for any job or promotion.Enough is enough. No more reservations. People in the economically backward category should be helped in getting proper education and training irrespective of their caste and creed, and only if they make themselves competent, they should get jobs.
