just target political corruption, state will definitely change
by Vijai kumar on Jul 26, 2006 01:28 PM  Permalink

The 100 years heaviest rain as described by the politicians was in fact rain for 6-7 hours. heavy rains started at 2 pm and by 8-9 it was just dripping.
the drainage system of Mumbai was cleaned there could have been so much water-logging...and that too for soooo long. after stopping of the rain, the ater not receding proved that drainages were clogged.
we pay heavy taxes to corporation & government for such services???
why dont we simply & only capital punishment for political corruption on the pattern of narcotics law in which possesion or consumption of drugs make you offender. in the same way possession or spending illicit money make the politicians guilty.
in fact, no one should oppose thiscause, no honest politician should be afraid.
it will help reduce criminalization also as politicians wont be able to hire criminals at the time of polls.
Children of politicians & others spend huge illicit
money on narcotics, it is said, many of the terrorists groups funding depends on narcotics. thus corrupt politicians are helping terrorism.
I would request my fellow citizen, after any disaster, demand for the system correction and accountability not cleaning the drainage.

''Spirit of Mumbai'' v/s ''Available options''
by nikhil on Jul 26, 2006 01:27 PM  Permalink

According to me there is nothing like "Spirit of Mumbai" we all talk about. The fact is a common man in Mumbai has no options. A daily wage worker, though in fear, has to travel by train or road the follwing day to earn his livelihood irrespective of a 26/7 or 11/7. As there is no option, a common man has to reach his workplace otherwise the pay cut can disturb his everyday necessities. We call this as "Spirit of Mumbai" but the fact is that he has no other options.

No corrective / preventive steps taken by Govt./ BMC after 26/07/2005
by Mahesh B. Pandya on Jul 26, 2006 12:49 PM  Permalink

Daulat Nagar area, Borivali east was flooded on 26.07.2005 with flood water of Dahisar river due to heavy rains and blockage of flood water by the flyover constructed in the river, collapsing of water retaining wall on the river and water touched the first floor twice on 26.07.2005 after noon and night. We lost all our furniture, articles like refregerator, washing machines, food grains and cloths and what not. After two days, politicians, corporators and authorities visited the place and given the assurance that govt. / authorities will take steps to construct water retaining wall on the revier and other required steps. People of the area and Co-op. Housing societies followed up with the authorities however, nothing has been done during the period of one year and the area was again flooded with rain water on 04.07.2006.

I request you to take up the matter with the concern authorities for doing the needful in the matter.

Mahesh B. Pandya

26/7 -post scenario
by a.matin on Jul 26, 2006 12:28 PM  Permalink

Dear all,

26/7 was a indelible mark in the minds of every Mumbaikar .Whether someone walked the night through waist deep waters with no help from the authorities or someone like me whose car was submerged (thanks to BMC cleaning up of sewers)27/7 haunts all of us .

This is because despite a year of its occurence little has been done for citizens of a metropolis which prides itself as the highest tax payers be it in form of coporate tax , service tax or personal taxes .

The govt has over the years not spared the common man in coercing and sometimes threating to pay his dues .Surprise checks by excise authorities ,tax eagles prying on our purchases of LCD , credit card spending ,even mutual munds with missives of computer generated reminders .

Has its done its own duties of providing a decent standard of living for those who contribute this .
Has its questioned the politicians who have stashed away wealth in form on cleverly benami accounts .

We mumbaikers should not not give in to the double standards of the authorities and for resistance group and file protests .

matin
