Priyadarshini Mattoo case
by Abhinandan on Jul 23, 2006 06:55 PM  Permalink

Its really frustrating to read these kind of news. Who should be blamed for this? Do we need to take the blame as we have not stood behind people who are fighting the case? Or Do we just need to accept that this is the life in India and just move on.

Safe India?
by Kunuthur Srinivasa Reddy on Jul 23, 2006 06:50 PM  Permalink

It is typical failure of the home ministry and inturn the judiciary. The issue destroys the morale of people of India, particularly, the youth.Hence the case should be referred to the Supreme Court of India forth with for possible justice, in honour of our Priyadarshini, the departed soul.

give the dues to the criminals and justice to the oppressed
by jal.a.laher on Jul 23, 2006 06:47 PM  Permalink

It is a great Pity that within 60 years of Indias
Independence, the Systems handed down to us by the
British are simply crumbling instead of strengthening
it .My verdict would be Severely Punish all the guilty
and criminals should hanged to death.

Priyadarshini Mattoo
by venugopal Kulkarni on Jul 23, 2006 06:23 PM  Permalink

It is very frustrating to hear this story. Each one of us are responsible for such state of affairs. We expect the government to do every thing and shrug our shoulders of responsibilities. We Indians as citizens should unite and fight against this corruption. Then only things can change.

Indian Judicial system
by Jaganniwas Iyer on Jul 23, 2006 04:44 PM  Permalink

I commend Lalit Koul for this particular column. The Indian "system of jurisprudence", directly borrowed from the colonial regime of the British is today dysfunctional and incapable of protecting the nation's citizens and exists only to serve the rich and the powerful, apart from serving the interets of certain foreign powers. Little wonder that criminals and thugs roam freely and also manage to enter the corridors of power, while Islamic, Maoist and evangelist terrorists are having a field day in trying to acieve their henious goals. It's time to say goodbye to this collapsed edifice and bring in a ew legal and judicial system, one that will be rooted in this nation's ethos and requirements. My whole-hearted support for the late Priyadarshini and her family; after all, she was my sister too.

RAPE OF LAW BY LAW ENFORCERS
by Venkatesh J Iyer on Jul 23, 2006 04:23 PM  Permalink

This is the sorry plight of India unless and otherwise very strict Public Punishment of the Rapist, Eve Teasers, Seducers and The Dirty Police is done by public nothing is going to change.

Law to make Lawyers accountable for there action would go a long way in solving this problems

Consider....
by anand rajadhyaksha on Jul 23, 2006 12:38 PM  Permalink

If JP Singh's daughter, or if he does not have one, then a niece, had met a similar fate, how would he have reacted? Perhaps he would have exacted a personal vengeance in custody had the accused been apprehended outside his jurisdiction, using his networking. He has obviously used his networking here to get his son off.

If Santosh Kumar Singh is 30 now, it seems apparent that he is married by now. What kind of a family married their daughter to such a man? If they claim / feign ignorance, what's their reaction now? Will they say that he is innocent as he could not be proved guilty?

justice-----really blind?
by lakshmi arun on Jul 23, 2006 12:21 PM  Permalink

Let the nation rise as one to fight for justice for priyadarshini mattoo and see that justice prevails albiet late. those very judges and lawyers who decreed that though they knew it was an open and shut case they were helpless and had to set santosh singh free(sic). it is time such judges and and police officials who subvert law be sent behind bars to teach a lesson to all those who use their power to ruin innocent citizens' of their lives. it is indeed a shame that a police official's son committed the crime and was let off scot free. hwen will we ever hear of true justice prevailing ever in this country?

police - the real menace
by Harish on Jul 23, 2006 11:18 AM  Permalink

Most manufacturing companies give their employees, subsidies for buying products from their own factories.I guess The Indian Police, too, enjoy this benefit - any crime commited by them,or their friends/relatives,has immunity against any punishment/trial.
Priyadarshini is just one of the victim, there would be many more like them all around.
Just pray to God we dont have to approach Police or the Courts anytime in our lives.
