When we have everything right from the expertise to human power, the technical know how almost we are unchallangable in many of these things. But still when disaster hits you can't even make a call. Why was the emergency band not opened? or why were not calls connecting? Why the operatiors have even not made an apology to the million population who had to remain tensed for hours? It's high time we ask these questions. Government needs to be real strict . No operators or concerns where human life and needs are not valued should be allowed in India. We need to take this as a challenge and a turning point in the unbeatable journey of India and its place in the world. freinds let's work our best day in and out to make sure our country is benefitiing and thereby each of us do. Goverment do it now or just move out! It's high time now that we utilise the smartest brains and effort for our motherland. If you are an Indian we all love our land and we have duties to our mother nation. This is not just for the common man but even for a 5th grade Ministers (Sorry to mention this way!). no matter who we're,all need to work for it. We need to make sure we aren't to be played with. secure&Strong!
Post blasts, i went out to the street. L J Road was buzzing with traffic - cabs with 7+1 carrying capacity, buses - having hardly any space on the footboard to toe on, - trucks - lorries - matadors all packed like mumbai local train compartments during peak hours- desperately trying to substitute for the halted lifeline. And what made me shiver is the reaction of the people on the road - trays of biscuits, bottles of water - paper packets of rice and dal - everything for the people who were worried about reaching home and consoling their more worried near and dear ones. I was moved. I felt high about the spirit of Mumbai too. Something like fresh blood gushing to the wound to provide it with all the nutrition it requires to heal it up as fast as possible. This place is alive - just wounded - and it will heal very very fast. However, the next day - when the dust was settling down and the fear giving way to anger and hatred towards the miscreants - we were discussing all these. Something came out of the discussion - a frustrating awakening that these people do not have any choice - but to accept it all on their way and live on. they do not have a contingency plan - helpless spirit?
Absolutely spot on as far as the media is concerned. The news readers are nothing but machines, asking stupid and idiotic questions, be it to the ministers or be it to the common man. Its high time some sort of censorship is put on the video clips that they show right from morning to night. Infact they have gone one step ahead and are making monsters out of people by asking for MMS Clips. Just too much.
No doubt about the fact that in crisis no city in the world comes anywhere near Mumbai. But high time we relook into the so called 'Spirit & Resilience of Mumbai'. Its high time that Mumbaikars demand the ministers to bring the culprits to book OR vacate their seats. Enough is Enough.
"When September came five years ago, no bodies were shown in a rare display of sensitive reporting and commendable journalism. A blast in Bali or in Mumbai, of course, is different since a different race, a different culture is involved. Show them the decapitated torsos; focus on the blood stained windows of a school in Beslan. Hit them hard with the images. We have a job to do."
That reflects poorly on Indians and Indonesians, not Westerners as the whinge seems to be alluding to. Indians are showing images of bodies, not some evil Western conspiracists. Similarly Westerners didnt show images of bodies, Indians just carried the same feed. I am sure if an Aaj Tak or NDTV van was parked near the WTC we would have seen our share of gory images.
Mr. Gaurav Parab, I completely agree with you on all you points.
I myslef was stuck on tuesday and had to travel all night to reach my home. People of all languages and religions were offering all kind of help to fellow Mumbaikars. We were offered water, snacks, food, Tea, etc. all along our bus travel.
When stuck, I watched a news channel and was dumbstruck by the way the reporter asked question to a cop. His first question was - "Saab, Yahan kya hua hai?" Needless to say, the entire audience erupted in sarcastic luaghter.
Similarly, during the heavy rains a reporter on a channel had the guts of asking a man, who was making his way with difficulty, thru knee deep water - Abhi aap ghar kaise jayenge? Naturally, the person too responded with similar lack of common sense - Abhi ek car ayega aur main us me baithke ghar jaoonga.
Clearly, these reporters are not only insensitive but are dumb and lack common sense.
It is the same old story. Mumbai patting itself on its own back. No1 is impressed. Every city on earth have faced issues like this now....and each one of them responds similarly.
Itis n ot funny to say we are back to normal on the second day. It only implies that you dont ACT n just take whatever is done to u with welcoming hands.
Media people have forgot what their responsibility is. I don't know how many journalist's very first thought was to go the site and help injured people.. First thought would be how to get it soon and get information about how many people are dead. There is no doubt that the Spirit of Mumbai is high and they have always helped each other during difficult times. But how many Mumbaikaries really bother to think about the issues before such situation arises? All the people knew roads all over mumbai has been dugged up and people may face problems during rainy season. All I want to say is "Prevention is better than cure"
Absolutely correct. Exactly what I was planning to write - and having seen it in print, take this opportunity to share with Gaurav - that I was sickened with the TV reporting of virtually all channels; the spot interviews with onlookers trying to get their mugs on the tube and saying senational things "there was a big blast", "a big explosion", etc. etc... Come on, it is obvious there was a blast and there are people dead and injured and instead of trying to help the injured on the way to the hospital for aid and comfort, there was the rush to get 'Breaking News' of a sickening variety!
Worse was the obsession of the media with the worthless leaders who have not even been given the opportunity to find out what has happened or happening and we want their info and who could have done it, .. no of dead, what help..., what compensation????
For a change BBC was restrained and apologetic about the images it would normally not have shown but for competitive media coverage!
