This is insane
by Parvati on Jul 06, 2006 10:29 AM  Permalink

Look at the condition. Human beings are judging god by their own std and in the process questioning his supremacy. If a normal man who is bhramachari finds it difficult to abide by his principles on meeting women, they think god cannot resist temptations as well. How ironical that they forget he is god....

Women who visit the temple go there as devotees and not to seduce the god.

Barring woman's entry is like questioning whether the lord can maintain his bhramacharitva when he sees women.

Shame on indian hindu men who think this way...
This distrust abt the god and his bhramcharitva must be the most painful thing for him to face than having women devotees visit the temple.

Just for publicity sake
by nithesh on Jul 06, 2006 10:25 AM  Permalink

yesterday ie 5-7-06 i was reading Times of India. In that she told that she was aware the women between the age group of 10-50 are not allowed inside the temlple but she entered the temple because of curiosity. But now she is contradicting her statement that she didnt knew about the rituals that are followed there. I would just say that its just for the publicity sake she did all those stuffs. Let the mighty lord only punish her.

Respect beliefs
by Priya on Jul 06, 2006 10:23 AM  Permalink

It is very clear that the actress in question is no devotee of Lord Ayyappa and this is just an attempt to drag into controversy one of the most ancient and powerful temples of South.

As regards to the tradition of not allowing women between 10 and 50, this is one that is coming down from ages and has been formed due to some considerations (the diety being a bramhachari). We should respect this tradition.

It is very difficult to touch the idol, however hard one tries. Even if there is lot of crowd, it is impossible to touch as it is set really deep inside. She must have been to the temple, but I don't buy the "idol-touching" story.

Women's entry into Sabarimala
by Ramanath Babu on Jul 06, 2006 10:11 AM  Permalink

Firstly and foremostly, it is not a question of gender bias. If that be, the males too can rake up such contraversy. There is a temple in Kerala where males are prohibited on certain occasions. In Attukal temple of Bhagavathy, during Ponkala, males are strictly prohibited. Neither the males nor females devotees do not feel anything wrong in that. It is a custom. Here, women do not feel priviledged nor the men feel neglected. That is the spirit of faith.

Women's entry into TEMPLE's
by Shanmugam Sundaresan on Jul 06, 2006 10:01 AM  Permalink

When our great River's, Ships & Ocean, and the very place the that we are living in known as "MOTHER EARTH" is all named after "HER" & not "HIM"; then why is that entry into Temples are denied access to women alone ? It is "SHE" because of "HER" every human life on this earth exist. "GOD never told ENTRY SHALL BE RESTRICTED to WOMENs" specially in "LORD AYAPPA's temple"; Let there be a Notice Board displaying, Entry restriction "TERMs & CONDITIONs for women's within certain age limits. Let there be women staff to guard women's entry into AYAPPA's Temple. LORD AYAPPA never told to any human to restrict WOMEN entry, it is the very MALE management restricting the entry into the TEMPLE, it not this TEMPLE alone the same shall be applicable to every TEMPLE across INDIA.

If she really did it...I am proud of her
by sumit on Jul 06, 2006 09:20 AM  Permalink

In case she really entered the temple premises and touched the deity, I am really proud of her. I am a hindu and from the upper caste and believe in gods and goddesses but donot believe the age old practises set by the brahmins for their own selfish gains. If we leave the interpretation of vedas and upanishads to these brahmins who twist them as per their selfish gains, then it is not much different from the present day interpretation of the quran by the imams and their silly practises like divorce by saying talaq three times etc. So down with these age old traditions practised by the temple authorities and so vociferously guarded by the selfish priests. Which vedas and upanishads say that women or lower caste people cannot enter temple premises. Lets breach the foolish citadels built by these brahmin priests!!!!

God's personal Hotline
by PR on Jul 06, 2006 08:35 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Lavanya
You seem awfully sure about what God did and didn't. How do you know these rules were indeed set by the God himself(herself) and not some freak who happened to live few thousand years ago? Looks like you've a personal hotline to God on which you get a call every morning telling you what God did and didn't !!!
I'm a guy so can you please ask God next time you speak to him, to deliver a big wad of cash at my doorstep!
Before you jump to conclusions, I am a (better) Hindu and ashamed that we continue to live in stone age and also that our society keeps churning out clueless souls like youself. Indeed, the education system has failed you badly !!
Take care and please stop eating food prepared by 'unholy' ladies like your Mom/Sister/Wife.

She never stated that women are unholy. She only defended the tradition and rightly so. The problem with you people is that you start giving comment on a subject on which you have very little or no knowledge.

When she said God has made those rules, she was telling that the Hindu faith and texts say so. You vent your feelings to other religions. Christians also do not allow any women to become Pope, so are muslims. Try to take bull by its horn and then you know what it is look like.
