'Aren't women human beings?'
by krishan arora on Jul 05, 2006 07:13 PM  Permalink

In India the Supreme Being is of female form, as are so many other dieties, then how can a woman be treated as impure? Even otherwise, if some priests feel that women are impure, then surely a woman, or any other 'untouchable', would only get purified by touching the Lord's feet, not that the Lord would be defiled! After all, how can god become impure?

I think what is now required is not the 'purification of the diety' but the purification of our minds!

What is wrong if the idol is touched by women folk or for that matter even by men ? Why shouldn't women of all ages go on pilgrimage to SABARIMALA ? If they, whomsoever they are, bar the women of certain age group for the natural involuntary monthly occurances, what answer do they have for involuntary occurances for men over which they also have no control ? I mean night pollutions for men. In every religion such kind of idiosincracies do exist which it is high time now to be eschewed. In any event I am proud as an Hindu to openly discuss with a view to erasing this kind of discrimination against women. As a first step. one or two days a week, entry to the temple should be arranged exclusive for women.

You are not a Hindu man. Change your name from Chandrasekhar to some Joseph or Mathew.

In the name of modern outlook, you will to temple without taking bath with chappels on. For you, there is nothing wrong in that. But for million of believers, it matters.

So better change your religion rather than trying to cleanse Hindusim. We have enough of it.

Those who do not belive in the tradition, should not remain in its fold.

I think instead of Mr. Chandrashekran, you should be barred of Hinduism.!!!!
Like it or not, you are just one of those Popat panchis (Parrots can mug too, like you) who had always opposed the people to look into other directions.
From Jagatguru Adi Shankara, Sant Gyaneshwar, Tukaram, Swami Vivekanand to Sai Baba etc, etc. All these greats had to fight the Parrot priests like you to bring in some new, to change the systems. But nevertheless, they come out as winners. Just because:
"Sachai Chup nahin sakti banawat ke usoolo se"

Nasty Complexes - Request everybody to think positively
by Anup Anand on Jul 05, 2006 06:42 PM  Permalink

Have you guys heard about AATTUKAL PONKALA where the women gather to worship AATTUKAL AMMA by making PAAYASAM? Men are not allowed there. Having full respect to this tradition, as a man, i never felt that I should make fun of this tradition or i never got any "Is a man not human being" complex.

Traditions are traditions - If you dont have any respect towards them, atleast let others.

it will be a folly and waste of public funds .It should be the responsibility of the government to ensure that wastae o public money on patently unnecessary ceremonies are avoided on grounds that are unconstitutional and insulting to the very religion in the name of which it is sought ot be done. the very idea of filing a case is also is anot a sensible thing . since the case is not that the woman concerned entered the temple secretly in the night without anybody's kowledge and in disquise. One could never have been able to go upto te sannithanam without anybody's knowledge4 and te temple presmisses is not without gaurds or othre seanrs and the priest . e woman concerned would have te right to claim a heavy damage against he government and the Dewaswam board and can even get the very ban totally removed legally , as it is unconsitutional and not agamic and the ban being on hygeine , nothing prevents them from claiming the right of entry on the strength of a medical certificate that they are NOT IN PERIOD.Better drop the issue and erect Boards politely notifying that women of the age group 10 to 50 are not allowed entry on grounds of hygeine and public health.

In your interview she now says she had written to the astrologer.Previously in TV news she had told that she had written to the priest.Even Mr.Karunakaran has not been able to toch the feet of Guruvayoor Sri Krishna or Lord Ayyappa. Then how do you think she an actress was able to touch the feet of Idol.At Ayyappa temple it is only possible to toch the feet of the priest even then he must have taken a bath to purify himself as he cannot then enter the sanctam sanctoram without talking a bath.

Same rules should apply to other religions too...
by Sanjay Choudhry on Jul 05, 2006 06:31 PM  Permalink

Same logic then should apply to other faiths. Women should be allowed to lead prayers in mosques and to become the pope and preists in churches.

Why double standards? This lady is married to a Christian. It is important to cosnider the angle of missionary mischief in this.

Since accidents occur ad obody is sure when somebody gets the period, a general ban on the group susceptible to this phase of life seems to have been imposed. Tha is right , because we can not expect evry womwn to come with a cetificate every time they come to the temple and the temple can not also undertake to examine them. So far so good.

The incident in question is stated to have happened more thqn a decade ago. the hullabaloo now raised gives room for some suspicion and politics. The incident being given a heirophobic dimention makes a mockery of the Hindu religion, because nobody in the temple administraion and the governement seems to be aware of the nature of the ban. the right reason should have been made known to the public . The suggestion for a purification ceremony on RELIGIOUS ground is the main thing that puts everything out of gear . aDISINFECTION PROCESS should have been done long ago when this incident occured , if FOR SURE IT WAS KNOW KNOWN THAT THE WOMWN CONCERNED WAS IN PERIODS AT HA TIME . After a lapse of a decade to ask for it on religious ground is highly objectionable and an insult to the religion , the presiding deity and woman hood.(continued)
