Long Term Planning Needed

This problem can be solved if only storm water drainage facilities are provided that will take the rain waters to far-off lakes and ponds and rivers, where it should be distributed or stored for future use. Further, excess waters can also be distributed by linking storm waters to the rivers which should be connected eventually in the form of some type of Garland Canal. At least, we may link the surplus waters to the drought-hit or dry areas nearby. Some political will is needed. Otherwise, year after year we may witness such disasters which will cost the state several hundred crores.

Dear all,It is sad that India is facing real natural seasonal problems all over the country after nearly 59 years of indepedence!! For "Aam Aadami" who bothers??I can understand some consequent problems, after unknown natural disasters! We, the people of India," Aam aadami"will have to do overselves, bit by bit!Who cares for goverment??All politicians are greedy and self serving. We, the peolple of India, have seen all these years, that politics and governance, do not help and care for the people.I feel that until we demand and if not paralyse, their way of fooling the people, we are not going to survive. We have to be persistant fighters for our rights as citizens of India. We have to be our own leaders!! See, what happened to planning in congress administration??We are fooled by goverment, and we keep quiet after a while!!Experts from public, retired or young, have to become involved, with the help and force from public, then and then we , will solve the problem for ourselves. The goverment and its men, only want to keep their power and greed, do not bother for people.

i cannot more than agree with you. i am from lucknow, presently in houston USA. this part of usa is hit by rains and hurricane for this very purpose they have built canal like systems to drain rain water and other excessive water known as Bayou. but in our country the political class would have to be convinced that this project implementation would need thousand of crores and therefore they can also stand to gain personally.

yes definitely long term planning is needed. In mean time media should not frighten people so much. There is a difference between showing reality & frightening people. Though it has been raining for last 4 days it is nothing comparable to 26/7. Why media tries to compare these rains with one on 26/7.
