Mr.Gautier - you're disconnected from the Indian Psyche
by Why me? on Jul 05, 2006 09:27 PM  Permalink

Mr.Gautier,
You have a few comments about Tamilnadu, and try to promulgate the idea of a Brahmin brain-drain. Brahmins and other upper castes flocked western Europe and the US in the 50's and 60's because they were the most educated people at that time. Thanks to reservation policies, take a look at the Tamilians in the same countries who migrated post 80's-90's - they are from every stratum of the society. AND, EVERYBODY MIGRATES FOR MONEY AND OPPORTUNITIES, NOBODY'S KICKING THEM OUT. If jobs in USA had a pay-scale of $300 per month (a rough equivalent of a Govt. job scale in India), who do you think will go there? So, we Tamilians have been branded anti-brahmin, anti-India, anti-this and that, but despite this heartless and idiotic Tamil bashing, we have done well on the social front and contributed big to United India. People like you, who are still entrenched in the dead European ideas of a 'nation', still cannot understand the fabric of Indian culture and how it tries to steer itself, and shower stupid advices and write nonsensical articles like these. The present social-cultural fabric of India is what the USA will be in the next 100 years. You'll never get it. (Continued...)

Nehru's doing
by sg on Jul 05, 2006 07:23 PM  Permalink

What Ambedkar and Nehru started has been refines by successive Congress govts. Now the so called upper castes are the ones who are on the receiving end. Never had the so called lower caste had it so bad. But in the name of socialism the Congress and the Communist have destroyed a highly talented and educated class by dening them equal oppurtunity to participate in the growth of India.

" ...Bhgavad Gita, humanity's Future Bible"

So says Mr.Gautier, implying that the stature of Bible is something to be aspired to..

No self respecting Christian would say that "Bible is the humanity's future Bhagvat Gita". Then why should any self respecting Hindu should accept the ridiculous statement of Mr.G?

by Raghwendra on Jul 05, 2006 12:02 PM  Permalink

Hi All,
If any one or group take benifit on any ground wheather it is legal or illega, logical or illogical, can't ready to give up that. It is natural that if any group take benefit and other's having the same quality can't find same opportunity, he/she oppose. It is neccesary that govt. give everybody same oppotunity

Poor OCs are being crushed by politicians
by sarita on Jul 05, 2006 11:36 AM  Permalink

Yes, OCs are 2nd class citizen in their own country, because they rarely go to vote, rarely take politics as career. If OCs want equal rights as OBCs,Scs & STs, they have to wake up now.
Writing columns & books will not help. This government will have to be dethroned before monsoon session. Its not that the government doesn't know that it is doing injustice to OCs but it is just pretending to become messiah of backward while in reality, it is helping rich people(OBCs are richer than OUCs) & crushing the OUCs under their feet.

Which is more inspiring?
by xyaz12 on Jul 05, 2006 08:51 AM  Permalink

Mr. Gautier's article is as usual terrific...We often see poor people with their sheer great strides (like the recent person from Orissa who made it to the rop by his sheer brilliance). So I ask all pro-reservationists and actually all people - which is more inspiring - a person who by sheer hardwork has made it to the top? Or a person who managed to get thgrough the system through some category? Most people in their senses will say the former. Fight against the useless politicians who have destroyed this country for so long....

Merit - NOT CASTE
by Raghu Raman on Jul 05, 2006 08:26 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In TN the politicians would do anything to malign Brahmins. They have given OBC certificates to Pillais, Mudaliars, Chettiars, Gounders, and other upper castes when historically this group has gained before the early 20th century and also in the past 100 years. They are the creamy layer who have benefited always. In the earlier centuries these upper castes suppressed the lower castes and now in the modern times under the aegis of DMK approved caste system also they have gained the most. Now these groups are suppressing the Tamiz Brahmins and the dalits. This creamy layer has to be removed in order for the most needy to have access to all the benefits.
All those Tamiz nationalists who were quick to criticize this article and the Tamiz Brahmins I want to ask you all to dig the creamy layer. Tamil Brahmins are not your enemy it is the creamy layer beneficiaries which are true enemies of the most backward class in TN. Tamil Brahmins are a spent force you are targeting a dead horse. I do not think a TN Brahmin if he has left TN will ever want to come back to the state and if he has not left TN he should do so post haste. There is blood curdling hatred in that state which

caste oppression is a myth
by susarla on Jul 04, 2006 11:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I agree Harijans were oppressed in Indian society and they must be provided special benefits to integrate into mainstream. But oppression of OBCs is a myth created by the dirty politicians to divide Hindus on cast basis to gain political power. Now a days it is a fashion to say that Brahmins and other upper casts oppressed the OBCs and hence the OBCs must get special treatment. Can some one point out what this oppression was that prevented them from advancing in material society? Granted, in social life Brhamins reserved for themselves the jobs of vedic knowledge propagators, temple priests, and purohits. These are financially un-rewarding professions and no OBCs are clamoring for these jobs. Post-independence,for 60 years, evey community enjoyed the same rights and previleges in modern materia life. Then, what is the meaning in this propaganda about oppressed and and underprevileged casts? Politicians who are incapable of generating ideas for electoral debates for making the country great and powerful are resorting to these dirty divisive vote bank politics to gain political power. Cast should be a private matter and all public policies must be cast-blind. Fight cast politics.
