Did he dare to impelement the really relevant recommendations of Mandal Commission. He only fracutured an already fractured society in a permanent, irreparable way. As far as integrity is concerned, how does he clear the name of Rajiv Gandhi on Bofors now? These are the politicians who go abroad for treatment of their cancer. Is the cure for his cancer not available in India. Please do not talk integrity and Politicians in the same sentence. These two words are incompatible.
V.p. Singhmay have been a man of integrity in Indian poltics at one time today he is the most self centred petty politician who is willing to appease anybody at any time to attract attention and some importence.Mandalism that he created has become a big curse in India today. This man has only nuicance value and be shunned completely before he ends up doing more harm
Mr. Bidwai has at length described the importance of VP Singh, but to me he is just an oppertunist, a 'ghagh', Raja of Manda, who has futher fuelled the caste system divide by introducing Mandal Commission's recommendations in education and everywhere. He took advantage of Bofors issue and raised himself to the highest office, albeit for a brief period. As told by Mr. Bidwai that in his book Bofors was ready to name the persons who have got the kickbacks, but I am not sure of sincerity of Raja Manda himself. Apart from sincerity how clean he himself and his son Ajay are, is not certain.
Its very clear that he is a spent force. May be he finds popularity in the corrupt politicians and people likes himself, but he knows that he has lost the goodwill of a comman man, long ago.
Teaming up with him is going to be detrimental to anyone who wants to align himself with him, because he is a person who destroys the persons or party who come in contact with him.
Likes of VP, Arjun won't find a good name in history unlike Mr. Praful Bidwai described in his article, but shall be remembered as the persons who, for personal political gains divided the country, even after independance.
For those who wish to see India march ahead with bright, talented and capable technocrats, scientsists, administrators and managers VP Singh is the last person they would like to remember. As one of the IAS Officers, (I think it was Mr Almeida) he has taken India back by centuries!. It is the spark he lit, called, "Mandalisation", has now started its ugly destruction with people from all parties for their own self-interests are talking about reservation in every sphere of life. When the going was too bad for him, to retain his position as PM he choose Mandal as his tool and nothing else; the same report of Mandal Mrs Indira Gandhi threw it in some corner.
V P Singh is a man of contradications. Having said that he had always in his pocket the names of those who were involved in the Bofors case and he would release the same within hours once he came to power, he never did anything to reveal the so called names. Having slung mud on Rajiv Gandhi and holding him responsible for the Bofors kickback, when the courts, two years back declared otherwise, took a 180 degree turn and declined his earlier statement. We would certainly remember him for his lies & his opportunistic politics.
His endeavour for the Right to Information is worthy noting. His implementation of Mandal is an havoc to the country. His personal integrity and sincerity to be appreciated. His ill-health to be sympathised.

I wondered who was writing this crap till I scrolled to the end of the article. Praful Bidwai, Kuldip Nayyar and co. are so anti-Indian that they would find V P Singh the messiah. He is the messiah alright, of Pakistan. Dividing India and creating schisms is the speciality of our great neighbour.
Nonetheless, Rediff is within its rights to publish views that are not overtly disruptive. I only wish they would read between the lines of these worthies.
If fighting for votes based on caste is any criterion and dividing a country on those lines is any standard, then VP Singh will surely take the cake. The writer is so biased that even commenting on this article would be ridiculous.
