sinner ,traitor,crook
by sudheer mahajan on Jul 04, 2006 12:42 PM  Permalink

praful always likes people like himself traitors to this great country & writes about has beens to keep himself & fellow traitors be in the news & try & be relevant.
vp singh is a traitor, crook,& will always continue to be one FOREVER as he is following in the footsteps of his ancestor jai chand rathore the first INDIAN king to betray his country to the muslim invaders.
pampering muslims is NOT secularism, where was his secularism when he became PM with the help of the BJP,once they withdrew support to him they became communal.......grow up....then praful & his kind of people ....communists have never grown up or refuse to grow up & face the real world as maybe their mental growth at the age of 1.

A generation who has seen VP Singh
by Abhishek Mathur on Jul 04, 2006 12:40 PM  Permalink

I unfortunately belong to a generation whose transition into the competitive world began with the word "reservation". Just when we were getting ready for the competitive world we realised some new words which will have more relevance in the time to come, namely, 1. coalition govt, 2. SC/ST/OBC 3. Reservation 4. V.P.Singh.
His master stoke might have made him massiah of a large no of people but he can't shy away from the responsibility of killing meritocracy in the country and the death of Rajiv Goswamy.
Another point to be noted is that he is more known for mandal and bofors than any other personal qualities. Not to mention that India had touch the borders of bankruptcy under his reign only.

Thats not true
by Rak on Jul 04, 2006 12:34 PM  Permalink

I completely disagree with your statement that he is one of the top 5 leader.

I believe one of the crisis we are facing (reservation Issue) today has been re-initiated by this guy in 90 to secure his votes from minority.

VP Singh is a cancer of society
by Kshitij Sharma on Jul 04, 2006 12:32 PM  Permalink

Praful Bidwai is trying to give credit to VP Singh to bring Mandal "inspite of being from higher class". This comment should not be there in the article in the first place. People like Mr Bidwai are the ones who, inspite of being educated, still cling to caste based politics and keep reminding others that caste is still relevant.

VP Singh had no good intentions in mind when he decided to implement Mandal. The only intention he had in mind was saving his own government.

kudos to mr badwai
by pankaj prakash on Jul 04, 2006 12:27 PM  Permalink

kudos for such a well doccumented and rightly scripted article from a reputed social activist Mr Praful, on your home-page.
The author rightly describes Mr Singh as a person who has dedicated an important and larger proportion of his life for that strata of society who remains neglected and is the most untouched portion of today's INDIA SHINING GLORY.
Thank god- such a person do exists in India's political spectrum and has helped reach these downtrodden voices to realms of powerful political spectrum .Had it not been done ,India might have emboldened itself into social imbroglio of political and social anarchy.

VP Singh's current relevance
by Atul Chandra on Jul 04, 2006 12:24 PM  Permalink

Of all the sycophantic, self serving and hypocrical articles-this takes the cake.

This I am saying, despite being an admirer of the revolution that VP Singh brought about in the Indian political arena and made the Indian democracy truly representative.

Not only this, Mandal made the rich, powerful and educated turn away from Govt. jobs-this directly led to the sudden success of Reforms in the Indian Economy.

So, we have a lot to be thankful to VP Singh-but not his relevance today. Not by miles.

The real reason is as below:

The Govt. is beleagured on the issue of implementation of reservations in Higher Education and Private Sector.

They need a face saving formula to implement the political hot potato.

Bofors has been buried and VP can cosily claim that Amitabh had him booted out of the cabinet!

Ergo-the resurrected VP Singh and Left supported Third Front.

Sonia's Delight and Left's Pride!!

Even Chanakya would have revelled in the sheer irony of the deal.

It ofcourse remains to be seen, how much and what the flogging of this dead horse shall deliver.

You see, the deal's farcical and faustian nature is too apparent.
